Oprah to Hock Kindles?

After making sure that Obama will win the next election with her golden touch, Oprah appears to have made it her task to sell an overwhelming amount of Amazon Kindle e-book readers. Jeff Bezos, Amazon’s founder, will be the guest on today’s episode, in which Oprah will apparently talk about her new favorite gadget, and we don’t think she’s gonna be talking about the rabbit.

A trailer on Amazon features clips of Oprah talking about her “new favorite gadget,” which she called “life changing.” The video doesn’t actually say what the gadget is, but the Financial Times’s Chris Nuttall says it could be the Kindle, which makes sense since Oprah is an avid reader and whatever she recommends on her show or puts in Oprah’s Book Club usually sells through the roof.

Tune in at 4pm today for confirmation that Oprah has bestowed her grace upon the device. Hey, maybe she’ll give out a free Kindle to everyone in the audience. Oh, and Amazon, please don’t ever use the phrase “what it is” ever again. Thanks. [From: Financial Times, via Silicon Alley Insider]

Ah, to be a pre-teen again. These girls thought it would be super cool to videotape their reaction to the results of American Idol 2008. They wanted dreamy David Archuleta to win but, alas he didn’t. The video is filled with pre-teen girl crying, screaming and all out hysteria. Watch the girl on the far left at :37, she pulled out all the stops.

Brad and Angelina have no problem talking about their relationship but apparently the meaning of tattoos is off limits. Pitt fan from Christina from Ontario, Canada wanted to know what his tats mean. Easy question–guess his answer…

We heard some rumblings about this when it happened a few years ago but the video was just realeased by some CEO named John Rogers, Jr. who beat basketball legend Michael Jordan in a game of one-on-one. It looks like it was one of those high-end fantasy camp type things for guys with too much money and ego.

We’ve already talked about megapixels and how bigger is most certainly not better; higher quality (e.g. better lenses, larger sensors) cameras with lower megapixel counts can take better shots than newer ones with higher ratings. But a lot of folks out there don’t seem to have received the message, as a new study has found that shoppers will prefer that which has the higher number, even when there’s no difference otherwise.

The Journal of Consumer Research has published a study in which a number of tests were performed, including one in which people were shown two copies of one picture, slightly modified to look different in terms of sharpness and color. With no additional information, only 25-percent of people liked the sharper picture. But when they were told the sharper one was taken by a camera with a higher megapixel count, 75-percent then chose the sharper image, which was otherwise identical to the other one.

So, this holiday season, don’t be so easily fooled. Shop around and read reviews to get the products that are best, and not just those that have the highest statistics on the box! [From: ars technica]

Who knew bears could skate AND hold a stick better than most kids in pee-wee hockey? Word is that this is a clip from somewhere in Russia. We’re not sure if this constitutes animal abuse or just animal trainers gone wild. Thoughts?

Once your brain is filled with holes from years of alleged drug and alcohol use, what do you do? If you are a celebrity like Ozzy Osbourne, you use your mumbling to sell cell phones with a full keyboard. Why? To better to communicate with you my dear.

We have sad news to report for those of you getting your Levitra from shady Internet pharmacies — your source might be out of business. Authorities in the U.S., England, Germany, Ireland, Israel, New Zealand, Singapore, Switzerland, and, of course, Canada raided the illegal online sellers of prescription meds.

Directed by Interpol under the codename Pangea, the crackdown comes as criminals are peddling more and more counterfeit and potentially dangerous drugs to unsuspecting buyers. In England, the raid hit twelve residences and businesses, seizing computers, documents, and “drugs claiming to treat conditions such as diabetes, impotency, obesity, hair loss and male breast growth as a side effect from bodybuilding steroid abuse.”

As we’ve said before, there are legitimate online pharmacies that offer great deals, and you can visit the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy Web site for a list of reputable sellers. Avoid the sites they don’t recommend, and hopefully someday we can all stop getting emails hawking V1@gra, X@NAX, Valiu/m/. [Source: Reuters]

BBC's Earth Collection Blu-rayIf you’re planning on buying into a new HD set and/or a Blu-ray player this holiday season, the BBC is packaging up a six-disc Blu-ray set that you’ll want to check out. ‘The BBC Earth Collection’ combines the ‘Planet Earth: The Complete Series‘ and ‘Earth: The Biography’ like so much peanut butter and chocolate — if you’re getting a whole new TV and Blu-ray player setup, it’s a great way to show off your new gear; if you’re just getting a Blu-ray player for your current set, the visuals will make your TV feel new again. There’s nothing new added to either title, but expect to see this box show up with an MSRP of $130. If it seems pricey, remember that new gear isn’t any good without content!
