As one astute tipster’s pointed out, the XPERIA X1a is now available for pre-order on the Best Buy site. Now that the phone’s really, finally, almost here are you totally psyched? Or have you been too busy playing with your G1 to notice? Like we saw last week, the phone will retail for $799.99 in its unlocked form, and there’s no word yet on pricing with a plan. Order now and they claim you’ll receive the phone as soon as November 28th. So… what are you waiting for?

[Thanks, Ian]

Well, it looks like folks in Europe (or Spain, at least) already sold on the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic could be in for a bit more than they bargained for, as the phone is now listed on Nokia.es for €429 (or just under $550) which, even given the now weaker Euro, is quite a leap from the €279 price for Europe that Nokia first announced just over a month ago. That still gets you an unlocked phone, however, and your choice of red, blue, or black colors, though it’ll no doubt give some folks cause to reconsider the increasingly plentiful touchscreen phone options out there these days.

[Thanks, Radek]

For AT&T users craving a little Symbian S60 on contract, do we have some stellar news for you. After discovering that the carrier would be bringing the S60-based Nokia 6650 into its lineup in short order, we’ve since seen all the proof we need to keep our hearts fluttering. Now, AT&T is doing us all a favor by making things official: the 3G-capable 6650 will land in red and silver tomorrow for anyone who covets, and with it will come a 2-megapixel camera, 2.2-inch QVGA display, AT&T Navigator / Video Share / Mobile Music and a 1.36-inch external display to boot. The pain? $69.99 with a 2-year agreement.

Alarm Clock Hacked To Open Window Blinds

There is nothing quite like using natural sunlight to get you out of bed - and some smart aleck managed to do so by hacking his own alarm clock, allowing it to open up the window blinds whenever the alarm goes off as an added stimulus to get you up and running for the day. Of course, this won’t really work if you intend to wake up before sunrise, but for the most of us, there is nothing more irritating that having strong sunlight shine in our faces even when we think we deserve a few more minutes in the bed. A microcontroller handles the alarm signal, helping drive the servo-wired blinds as well.

Hey Sprint, you listening? Granted, GSM doesn’t do Sprint a whole lot of good in the States, but swapping a CDMA radio into HTC’s first WiMAX effort here would make for a downright mighty response to the Touch HD. The previously-seen T8920 has turned out to be the MAX 4G, an 800 x 480 monster with 8GB of Flash on board, two cameras, an FM radio, GPS, WiFi, triband EDGE, and — most importantly — WiMAX support, making it the first GSM / WiMAX handset anywhere in the world. It’ll be launching on Scartel’s Yota network in Russia, and if you have friends cool enough to have a MAX 4G of their own, calls between the two of y’all will automatically be routed over the WiMAX airwaves using VoIP. A launch date hasn’t been announced, but unless you’re in Russia, there’s probably not much point in even bothering to lust after this one. If you insist, though, you can check out a couple additional shots of the phone over at Engadget Mobile.

Hello Kitty Cell Phone Holder

Hello Kitty seems to play an important role in our everyday lives as she’s virtually been seen in just about any and every household device. This time round we have the Hello Kitty Cell Phone Holder that features cheeks which sparkle and a swinging head whenever there is an incoming call. Well, we suppose that works fine if you’re one who like to turn your phone to Silent mode, as all those flashes and jazz could be enough to wake anyone up from their slumber (if they’re light sleepers, of course), but it is pretty pointless if you have already set your phone to is normal alert level. This GSM-compatible cell phone holder will retail for $35.99 a pop.

The E63 just broke the shackles of the rumor monger to become Nokia’s latest messaging device. With a pre-tax, pre-subsidy price of just €199, Nokia hopes to see the Symbian S60 device generate some mass-market appeal. So let’s see: WiFi, physical QWERTY, choice of ruby red or aquamarine blue, standard 3.5-mm audio jack, camera with video recording, and the ability to switch from an E-series business mode (corporate email, appointments, intranet) to personal mode (pictures, personal email, and browser shortcuts) with a single key press — sounds like a winning combination to us. Nokia’s even tossing in 1GB of Ovi file storage for free when the E63 begins shipping in the coming weeks — where, is Nokia’s little secret for now. We’ll update you with the hard details just as soon as Nokia releases them. Until then, check the blue version after the break.

Update: We were able to hack forth the following detail from the bowels of Nokia’s website: 113 x 59 x 13-mm / 126g form factor, 320 x 240 pixel display, quad-band GSM / EDGE with 660 minute talk / 432 hours standby, microSD memory slot with 110MB internal memory, 2 megapixel camera capable of QVGA video @ 15fps, and of course, Bluetooth. It’ll also be released in WCDMA 900/2100, 850/1900, and 850/2100 configurations. Sorry, no HSDPA data or infrared like that found on the E71.

Fujitsu Wraparound Vehicle View

Accidents on the road can often be prevented, and good thing technological advancements in vehicles have experienced leaps and bounds to date - with still room available for improvement, to boot. Fujitsu is working on its real-time wraparound vehicle view that offers the driver a panoramic view of the vehicle’s surroundings, or he/she can also choose the most appropriate view for individual driving situations. Perfect for those who have yet to master the art of parallel parking, and we can’t wait to see Fujitsu implement this technology in vehicles soon enough. No prizes for guessing whether this will see action in Japanese makes first before hitting cars from other countries.

Can’t be long now, right? First we had dummies, but these are the real deal, ladies and gentlemen — a little over five ounces of HSDPA, VGA, TouchFLO 3D, QWERTY, and likely a bunch more letters and numbers we’re not recalling at the moment. Retail Fuzes are trickling into stores as we speak, though they’re apparently going under lock and key; as far as we can tell, none will be sold until AT&T drops the green flag. In the meantime, Sprint, pimp that Touch Pro of yours as hard as you can, because we’re afraid your exclusivity is about to end.

Recent firmware updates may have aimed to shut down such shenanigans, but it looks they were a little too slow to stop Jay Freeman (a.k.a. Saurik) from going to town with his newly jailbroken G1 and installing Debian on the handset. What’s more, he apparently even managed to get Debian and Android to play nice with each other, letting you have a completely normal and unassuming phone by day and a nerd machine by night. As you might expect, however, it’s not exactly as simple as installing an app from the Android Market, but anyone with a little experience in installing Linux distributions on unconventional devices should be able to follow the instructions fairly easily, although actually turning it into something useful is another matter. Hit up the read link below to get started.
