Navman S100 GPS - just launched!

The Navman S100 physical design is a good representation of what stand-alone GPS should look like in the short-term. It’s somewhat thin (13.5mm). has a sleek design (no screen bevels), even if a silver-colored back might create unwanted reflections on the dashboard. On the features side, the S100 has a few good things going for it, like Faster GPS fix or Economical routing. Eye-candy is also part of the package with NavPix photo navigation, junction views or 3D Landmark. In the UK, this device costs 200UKP, but I bet that it will be less expensive if/when it hits the U.S.

Rachael RayEvery time I’ve heard Rachael Ray speak lately (not on her Food Network shows but on her daily syndicated show, which is more current), I’ve noticed that her voice has been even more raspy than usual. She has always had a deep voice (except when she gets all excited and high-pitched), but it has usually been smooth. Now it seems incredibly scratchy, like she has a permanent sore throat. Turns out there’s a reason why.

Ray has a benign polyp on her vocal chord. She’ll have day surgery in December to remove it. Now some of the tabloids have reported that Ray was worried about throat cancer, and I bet a lot of people believed that because of they way she has sounded lately, but the polyp is benign. A spokesperson says that “Rachael is the picture of health” and that’s a common, quick procedure which won’t affect the taping of her show.

There’s actually a lot of noteworthy geek news today — but alas, none of it is amazing enough to really warrant an entire post. Believe me, it makes me a sad panda not getting to devote an entire post to Wolverine. So, let’s just get right down to it:

  • Producer Lauren Shuler Donner talked up X-Men Origins: Wolverine over on Superhero Hype: “It’s closer to the first X-Men in tone because it’s a little darker, but there’s a lot of action. It’s his origin story. It’s really good. I’ve been in the editing room the last couple of weeks and I think that it’s good and that audiences are going to like it. But it’s a little darker … You haven’t seen this side of him. It’s darker and sadder and it’s kick-ass. There’s a ton of action. It’s really kick-ass.” She also suggested the film borrows from Wolverine’s Victorian youth in one of my least favorite series, Wolverine: Origins.
  • The troubled Punisher: War Zone has launched its official site, and it’s got all kinds of things to click on. The multiplayer game jammed up my computer so I don’t know what that’s all about. And IGN has the new poster, which will arrive in your local theaters framed in “real” guns. I must say, that is a pretty impressive piece of marketing.
  • David S. Goyer, scribe of The Dark Knight, tried his best to end all these Batman 3 rumors. “It’s all B.S.,” he told MTV News. “ALL of it. Chris and I haven’t even talked about it. He quite understandably is taking a long, long vacation and wants to purge himself.” This will dampen the “Guess who’s playing Catwoman” rumors for approximately 3.5 days.
  • Superhero Hype has 5 videos of Kick-Ass filming in Toronto. Mostly people standing around, and cars being driven on platform trucks. And /film has photos up of Dave “Kick Ass” Lizewski’s costume, filled out nicely by his stunt double.

Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez suffered a nervous breakdown after working too hard. The singer-and-actress, who has two children with husband Marc Anthony, was working on movie “Enough” in 2002 when she “froze” and realized she had to slow down.

She told website The Daily Beast: “There was a time when I was very overworked and I was doing music and movies and so many things.”

“I was suffering from a lack of sleep. And I did have a kind of nervous breakdown. I froze up in my trailer.”

“I was like, ‘I don’t want to move. I don’t want to talk. I don’t want to do anything.’ It was on that movie ‘Enough.’”

“I kept saying, ‘I’m not weak. I’m not weak.’ It’s funny what tricks your mind plays on you. I just didn’t want people to think I was falling apart.”

Jennifer decided not to consult a therapist about the breakdown, but followed her doctor’s instructions to take a break from her hectic schedule.

She added: “My bodyguard picked me up and put me in the car and they took me to a doctor. Right away they want to give you pills.”

“But I have never liked the idea of pills and kept saying no. My doctor said. ‘You’re sleep deprived. You’re overworked. Go home and go to bed.’”

“He told me to go back to work on Monday after a weekend of sleeping. So that’s what I did. I’ve still never been to a shrink. I’m not a shrinky person.”

Smart Cars are great: They’re fuel efficient and small enough to park in a spot barely big enough for a motorcycle. The problem? Smart Cars are just not very intimidating on the road. Hell, someone in a Hummer might not even see you in the lane next to them and just roll right over you.

We don’t know why it took so long to realize this, but the solution is obvious — put that micro-mobile on some monster truck wheels!

It’ll still get pretty good mileage, it’s still small enough to squeeze into the tiniest of parking spots, and now you’ll be able to crush that jerk in the Lexus who cut you off. Not that we encourage giving in to your road rage. [From: Wired]

Speaking to 1UP, Alex Evans of Media Molecule apparently confirmed that the many user-generated levels from the LittleBigPlanet will remain in the final game. Earlier today, we told you about a poll that Media Molecule was running to decide whether or not those levels should stay. The voting will continue, but simply to gauge the reactions of the community — though with 82% currently in favor of preserving the creations, it looks like Media Molecule made the right choice. So if you are in the beta now with an especially exotic creation, you can relax and you don’t have to worry about losing your work.
