There used to be this ridiculously cheap outdoor produce market nestled against a bubble tea shop that I would frequent. I would always come out of the place with bags of produce and fruit, and I would never have to spend more than $15. Sadly, the place is gone now, but I never forget it because I once picked up the most delicious box of blackberries there. They were juicy, sweet, and pretty much perfect. I have been thinking about that place a lot this summer, as I’ve been craving those tasty buggers for weeks.
And now I have the perfect excuse to buy them. Over at Steamy Kitchen, there’s a so-very-delicious-sounding recipe for salmon with blackberry brandy sauce. Fish + blackberries + brandy = heaven! This is one of the greatest selection of favorite ingredients that I’ve seen in a while. Along with the above, there’s dijon mustard, chili powder, and a nice helping of balsamic vinegar. How can you resist?
Now I just have to figure out when I’m going to make it, and what to pair it with.

What happens when you get an opportunity to go eye-to-eye with Heavy Rain? Wet, mostly. But you also get spooked, shaken, and shocked (thought not necessarily in that order). Joystiq experienced it all at the Leipzig Games Convention, when they were given a demonstration of the game by developers Quantic Dream. If you’ve seen the teaser trailer from Sony’s Press Conference, then you were probably as intrigued as we were. From what Joystiq is saying, we ain’t seen nothing yet.
If Quantic Dream want to build hype for this game, they should release a walkthrough video of this creepy bonus level, pronto. We knew there was a reason Playboy named it their E3 Game Of The Show. Check out the full eyes-on piece over at Joystiq.

Today, I watched two movies back to back and man it can be so tiring. The first movie I watched was Mumbai Meri Jaan and I was very happy with what I saw. If I had to give a one line review of this film I would say, “Its a good effort; I recommend you […]

At long last, “you are now free to surf the intarwebz while flying.” Okay, so maybe it has been possible in the past, but American Airlines is taking a huge leap forward in the US market today by giving passengers aboard long-haul Boeing 767-200 flights the option to hop online during the trip. The GoGo service, which is being provided by Aircell, will charge customers $12.95 for access to the world wide web, though Reuters points out that VoIP calling is “not available.” Delta, US Airways, et al. — time to get with the program. Right on schedule, Gateway has set free its P-7811 FX gaming laptop, and we got our hands on one right before you can get your own. Our test unit shipped with the aforementioned Intel Core 2 Duo at 2.26GHz with a 3MB L2 cache, Windows Vista Home 64-bit, Intel PM45 Express Chipset, NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GTS with 512MB of GDDR3 discrete video memory, a 17-inch WXGA screen, 200GB 7200 SATA HDD, 4GB DDR3 800MHz RAM, HDMI, 9-cell battery, and 1.3MP webcam. We’re pretty pleased with the performance of the machine, although dialing up Crysis to its max settings made it choke a bit. We’re still not sold on the computer’s stylings, but in a dark room of gaming goodness, who’s paying attention to gaudy lights and overly-shiny carbon anyway, right? Peep the hands-on pics and a brief video of Crysis in action after the break. And yes, we know we suck at the game.

Besides the RAZR, few handsets have milked longevity like Nokia’s 8800 slider — first introduced in April 2005 (spied in March). Unlike RAZR, however, the 8800 somehow manages not to annoy… too much. The latest Carbon Arte model brings 3G, a 3.2 megapixel camera, 4GB of flash memory, and OLED display with anti-fingerprint coating. Fine, but it’s the rocket-esque carbon fiber, titanium, and stainless steel materials that help push the price tag to €1,100 (that’s about $1,600) before taxes and of course, carrier subsidies. Expected to brazenly appear in the smoking dens of Europe’s finest gentlemens’ clubs sometime in Q3.

While he isn’t really a “super” hero (at least not in the innate superpower sense), William Katt -aka- Ralph Hinkley -aka- The Greatest American Hero has always been my top dog. So, I’ve been pretty apprehensive about a big-screen reboot of the wacky ’80s series — my nights plagued with nightmares of Zac Efron, topped with a really bad perm, flying into walls.
But at the very least, the new feature might get some old-school cameos. According to MTV, Connie Sellecca says that the famous trio — her, Katt, and the splendid Robert Culp, have all received offers for cameos in the remake. Whether they take Stephen J. Cannell up on the offer remains to be seen. But at least that’s something. In the meantime, there’s also a comic book and animated webisodes on the way, so Katt-style Ralph is far from finished.
And as an added bonus to you lucky goons in the states, the MTV link above contains a clip of Culp taking issue with Ralph being called a superhero.

Jennifer Lopez has been badly drubbed by author Richard Laermer in a chapter of his book.
In the chapter titled, Jennifer Lopezs Antics, the author has written This woman has tried everything - no exaggeration: She’’s been a movie star, a diva, a romantic comedian, a put-upon daughter, a lady from The Bronx, a married ”mama,” a half of a Hollywood duo, a disco starlet, a Chiquita, and my favorite.
He further writes Honestly, there is something to be said for people like Lopez who think they are gods in fact getting a comeuppance from their fans.
In 2001, J.Lo was the biggest of the big, and is now the star likely to be found soon on Trivial Pursuit.
And her album of 2007, called ”Brave” without a tinge of irony, was dubbed worst of the year, with one critic saying ”too shallow even by Ashley Tisdale standards, reports New York Post.

U.S. stock futures were higher this morning, pointing to a potential positive start on Wall Street. Investors this morning await Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke speech on financial stability scheduled for 10:00 a.m. from the Fed’s annual retreat at Jackson Hole. In the face of recent financial turmoil, namely talk of a government bailout for Fannie and Freddie, as well as troubles at Lehman, Bernanke’s speech will likely be today’s highlight. Meanwhile, oil dropped a little from Thursday’s advance.
Indeed, the Wall Street Journal reports that Freddie Mac (NYSE: FRE) “executives are sounding out private-equity firms and other investors about the possibility of buying new common or preferred shares in the mortgage company.” But of course, investors are worries their investments in Freddie or Fannie Mae (NYSE: FNM) may be lost in case of a government bailout. Even Warren Buffett opined on the matter on CNBC this morning, saying he expects the government to take action to support troubled mortgage financiers.
Lehman Brothers (NYSE: LEH) is rebounding this morning after an analyst at Ladenburg Thalmann upgraded LEH to Buy Thursday, saying it is vulnerable to a hostile takeover.
Verizon Communications (NYSE: VZ) is close to an agreement with Google (NASDAQ: GOOG), according to the Wall Street Journal. Conceding they need help with search, the deal could make Google the default search provider on Verizon devices.
Apparel retailer The Gap, Inc. (NASDAQ: GPS) reported a 51% jump in quarterly profit after the market close Thursday. Cost-cutting efforts and tight inventory controls helped offset a drop in sales. Gap topped estimates on both earnings and sales. Gap shares climbed 3.7% in after-hours trading.
Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) is having some controversial news these days. It seems that Orange, Poland’s largest mobile operator, paid people to line up in front of stores as it rolled out the iPhone there Friday. While at least it wasn’t Apple that paid these “actors,” it begs the question of how iPhone sales are faring outside the U.S. Meanwhile, BusinessWeek clues us into Apple’s ambitious plans for the iPhone, which include making at least 40 million iPhones in the next year. Could Apple plans succeed in light of the global economic downturn?
Big movers this morning include Foot Locker (NYSE: FL) whose shares are climbing over14% in premarket trading after the athletic apparel retailer posted better-than-expected results for the second quarter. Pacific Sunwear (NASDAQ: PSUN) shares, on the other hand, are down over 26% in premarket trading after “the teen retailer issued a weak outlook that resulted in a series of investment downgrades.”
In deal news, Aon (NYSE: AOC) said on Friday it’s going to buy Britain’s Benfield Group for 738 million pounds ($1.4 billion) — a 29% premium to Thursday’s close — as the reinsurance brokerage tries to expand its operations. Meanwhile, General Motors Corp. (NYSE: GM) actually had “initial expressions of interest from potential buyers of its Hummer brand,” Chief Executive Rick Wagoner said Thursday.
