Britons have upped the amount they spend online, according to a new report compiled by the Interactive Media in Retail Group (IMRG) and Capgemini.
Again.
Every time they publish this report, the news is the same, online spending rises every month as Britons gradually shift their shopping onto the web. I should just publish the same story and update the numbers each time!
The IMRG/Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index August 2008 revealed spending rose to £4.8 billion (£79 per person) in July. The month before that it, the organisation discovered growth of just 24 per cent to £4.3 billion. I say ‘just’ because in May, online retail growth was more than 30 per cent.
What really interested me this month, though, was a comment made by Mike Petevinos, Head of Consulting for Retail at Capgemini UK. He explained growth is rapid, even within the current gloomy economic climate. One reason he gave was “the increased choice, price transparency and convenience that online has to offer”.
It is this choice, ease and transparency which have made the web such a successful place to operate from. However, it doesn’t matter how many consumers are using the internet to shop – if a company cannot be found then it cannot compete. Visibility is hugely important.

Oddly, there are no fat princesses in these new screenshots from Leipzig. There are only skinny princesses to be seen. A game named Fat Princess should at least have one new screenshots with an actual chubby royal in it. We guess they need more cake. Hear that? More cake!

If you’re old enough to remember Microsoft’s Windows 3.1, which was a massive improvement in the PC interface in its day but now looks rather quaint, you’ll get a kick out of this concept window treatment from geek artist John Nouanesing. Called Fenetres 3.1 (fenetre means “window” in French), it’s a set of small curtains that add title bars to the individual windows, plus a window blind painted to look like a blue screen of death, which can be deployed by pressing down on a scroll button mounted to the right of the window. It’s a clever visual tweak to a boring window, to say the least, though sadly, like Nouanesing, it doesn’t look like we’ll ever see it available for purchase. [Source: Apartment Therapy Unplugged]

It looks like a recent PlayStation 3 theft took a few more twists and turns than your garden variety console heist, with not one but two individuals finding themselves finding themselves short a PS3 before all is said and done, and one of ‘em eventually winding up with an unwanted Xbox 360. Our story picks up when one Dustin Waller gets a used PS3 as a gift and goes about using it, unknowingly, under the previous owners PlayStation Network ID. As luck would have it, that “used” PS3 was actually stolen, and after a month of good times, the police showed up at his door and took the console away. Apparently, they used Waller’s IP address to track down his location, which we assume means Sony was also involved, although that tidbit’s not exactly clear. But that’s not all, when Waller went back to the 3-D Games store that the PS3 was purchased at to get a refund, they refused him, and would only give him an Xbox 360 in return, which Waller complains “isn’t nearly as expensive or sophisticated as the PlayStation.”

Always looking to make lemonade out of lemons, the self-proclaimed BGizzle took the opportunity to inform prospective (and current) BlackBerry Bold owners of the handset’s fragile nature. To no one’s surprise, the naked Bold didn’t stand up too well to pavement when dropped from about two feet — maybe this is where a real metal bezel would come in handy? Anywho, we’re not told whether or not the essential functions were fubared, but we’d recommend taking his advice and snapping up a skin / case before welcoming it to the world.

Facebook has now become the number one social networking site in the world.
Personally, I love facebook. Myspace is just a lame excuse to whore up for people you don’t even know.
Facebook has reached to countries like Lebanon and has been translated into 20 languages. On August 12- facebook had 132 million users, making 63% other countries besides North America.
Damn.

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are reportedly considering starring in new comedy movie ”Food Fight.”
The married couple - who have a two-year-old daughter Suri together - are set to make their first on-screen appearance together in the film, which tells the story of an arrogant New York chef who is forced to cook in a school cafeteria.
Tom is being lined up for the role of the chef, while Katie will play a teacher or member of staff in the cafeteria, according to Chicago Sun Times columnist Bill Zwecker.
A source at Universal Pictures, who are in charge of the film which is being scripted by “Definitely, Maybe” writer Adam Brooks, refused to confirm the reports, adding: “That’s news to me!”
If the movie does go ahead, it won’t be the first time Tom will have acted alongside his real-life love interest.
Tom met future wife Nicole Kidman on the set of “Days of Thunder” in 1990. The pair later teamed up for “Far and Away” and “Eyes Wide Shut.”
Tom also dated his “Vanilla Sky” co-star Penelope Cruz.

The Meizu M8’s release date is fast approaching, so here is yet another image to whet your appetite. This phone comes with a 3-button design that is seemingly too uncomfortable to use, but then again when they were made larger, it upset the aesthetic balance - at least that’s what Meizu CEO Jack Wong mentioned. The rear camera is located in a remote corner, while speakers on the M8 are located on the side. No idea on what the user interface will be like, but I suspect that this will have its fair share of fans, albeit it won’t kick up a fuss or storm like the iPhone did.
