We’re heading into the waning days of summer now. With just a couple of short weeks to go before Labor Day, it’s time to start thinking about school lunches. While I don’t have any little ones to send off to school quite yet, I know that lots of you do. When I spotted this Lunchbag Round-up over at Teensygreen, I knew it was just the sort of thing that Slashfood readers would be interested in.
They’ve taken the time to search for lunchboxes of all shapes and sizes in order to help you find the perfect lunch storage devise for your kids. Several of these boxes would be great for grown ups too, as you’re never too old to bring your midday meal along with you.
On the days that I stay at work for lunch, I carry my meal in a combination of jars and reusable plastic containers, tucked snugly into a zippered, insulated bag in which someone once mailed me cheese. For those of you who often bring your lunch with you, what’s your preferred way to transport your food?

Check your emails, folks. Over the next few hours and days, new members of the expanded beta for PlayStation Home will be added. Already, folks in Europe have received a notice acknowledging their acceptance into the new beta. From what we hear, American members of the beta should be receiving download codes soon as well. Make sure you check your spam messages, as you wouldn’t want to delete the code necessary to access the updated beta client — would you?
Remember: if you’re already in the old beta, you must still get the download code to access the new, expanded beta. An edited version of the invitation e-mail is available, after the break.
[Thanks, Snake!]

Alright, Microsoft: we take it all back. It was wrong, just wrong of us to impugn your promotional filmmaking skills. That Bruce Springsteen parody? Spot on. Awkward Vegas flirtations? True pathos. And now, to promote the launch of your latest version of the Surface table for Sheraton Hotels, you’ve crafted the touching story of a curious kid, a smug photo-twirler, her tardy date and a loving asian family. We don’t want to spoil anything, but complications ensue, folks, and this is one nail-biter worthy of a sequel. Do they all end up going to dinner together? Or are they destined to troll Craigslist that evening, seeking their missed connection…
You: Cute family. Me: Sultry Surface spokeswoman. My date was a disaster, and now I’m all alone for the weekend, let me teach you how to pair your phones with the table over Bluetooth, and then we can all go get ice cream together!
Heartbreaking, simply heartbreaking. Video is after the break.

What’s more entertaining than seeing acclaimed British chef Gordon Ramsay go ballistic on Hell’s Kitchen contestants and inept restaurant managers? Seeing a 9 year-old Gordon Ramsay go ballistic on inept restaurant managers and his own mom.
That’s the gist of these two videos (after the jump) from Caterer.com, a hospitality job site. The first one shows a little Gordon Ramsay (great hair) getting ticked off at the “anemic” school lunch his mom has packed for him. The second clip shows him out at an anniversary dinner with his parents, where he freaks out on a waitress and her boss when the food doesn’t arrive on time, even though the restaurant is completely empty.
I know these were made as promotion for Caterer.com, but they should include them as extras on any Ramsay DVDs and show them on his TV shows as well. He even has his own web site.

Are you available Saturday, November 8th? Will you be in Parker, Texas? If the answer to these questions is yes, then maybe you’ll head out to Southfork Ranch for a reunion with cast members of the classic CBS mega-hit Dallas. In honor of the 30th anniversary of the primetime soap, several actors from the show — those still around — will gather for a huge celebration. J.R. — Larry Hagman — will be the unofficial host, with Sue Ellen (Linda Gray) and Bobby (Patrick Duffy) also confirmed. No, this is not a dream. It’s a real anniversary get together!
And what’s really terrific about this event, if you ask me, is that it’s not a private party. You can buy a ticket and take part. Tickets go on sale August 22 and will cost between $100 and $1,000. And for that money there will be a chance to ask questions of the stars, enjoy a concert of country music, tour Southfork and watch a fireworks display. Presumably that will not be a re-enactment of “Who shot J.R.?”

Thank you high unemployment rates.
Things in the United States aren’t so hot. The economy has gone down preventing many people from attaining jobs. The housing market has been blasted by laser beams. Foreclosure and bankruptcy are common terms used these days. An area that has been wounded deep are the newspaper newsrooms. According to the American Society of Newspaper Editors approx. 2,400 journalists have left their jobs.
Ex: The New York Times Co. is down by 45%. So if the economy continues plunging downward Charles Layton predicts that ” we may begin seeing, pretty soon, big American cities with no daily newspaper”. Shit. Wait- there is hope for these journalists though.
India. What? Wait-huh? Yes. India.
Newspapers, new dailies and magazines are just sprouting on a monthly basis. Raju Narisetti is the editor of Mint, a publication that caters to economic elites or aspiring elites. He was the former editor of the Wall Street Journal Europe. He wants to help those journalist’s who seem to have lost hope in finding a job.
“India is a fascinating country where history is being made in many respects so it is a fertile place for good journalism. Hopefully some of the non-Indian journalists will have a better understanding of India when they do go back.”
I’m shipping out to India!

Penelope Cruz has confessed she doesn’t understand how she passed her school exams because she never studied. The “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” actress - who is reportedly engaged to actor Javier Bardem - was stunned with her high school success because she never applied herself in class.
She said: “I was good in school, but I was surprised because I didn’t put too much time in studying.”
“I was always dreaming about the things I wanted to do when I was older, like acting. I still don’t know why or how I passed, because I literally put no time in.”
Penelope, who locks lips with Scarlett Johansson in Woody Allen’s new movie, insists she liked going to school and learning new things.
She added: “I did actually enjoy every subject. Except mathematics!”
The 34-year-old Spanish beauty recently revealed she struggles to control her “inner beast,” who threatens to ruin any achievements in her life.
She explained: “I’m always finding very tricky and hidden ways to sabotage any beautiful moment.”
“And it’s something so internal that I don’t think even my friends or family can catch me doing it.”

Madonna and Guy Ritchie have been accused of price fixing at their London pub.The couple bought 18th century pub The Punchbowl in London’s Mayfair six months ago, but it is claimed staff at the venue operate a two-tier pricing system, with tourists being charged more for drinks than locals.
Pub visitor Brian Richardson said: “On Monday I paid $7 for a pint, now all of a sudden it’s $7.5. I was shocked. I complained to staff. They have got two prices - regulars’ prices and non-regulars’ prices.”
“I don’t mind paying more but it is completely arbitrary. It is not the money, it is the price hike. It is outrageous.”
His friend Andy Kneller added: “When Brian realized how much he was paying he disputed it. We know the governor.”
“He did say we have prices for regulars and prices for people who don’t come here very often. He dropped himself in it.”
There is also no price list on display at the pub, which is a legal requirement. Westminster Council is investigating the claims, which could even lead to the venue losing its license.
Assistant manager Henry Heaton vehemently denied the allegations, saying: “It is not true at all that we fail to have tariffs on display and charge different prices.”
“The price list is up on the bar now. What has happened is some of the prices have changed. And it is not correct to say that regulars get drinks at better prices than tourists.”
A spokesman for Madonna and Guy said the couple would not be commenting on the allegations.

The Palm Treo Pro (formerly known as Treo 850) has been spotted by scottymomo, an eagle-eyed wmexperts community member. the images have been taken down since, but they are still out there on the web. From what we can tell, it runs Windows Mobile 6.1 (it has a touchscreen) and a digital camera in the back, which is pretty standard. the specifications are not public yet, but I suspect that it might be a (somewhat) low-cost windows mobile phone. What’s your take?
