Here are some Fanboy nuggets for you to chew on …

Halo: The Fall of Reach
— While that old Halo movie is dead and buried, the property may still have a little life left when it comes to a big-screen adaptation. Stuart Beattie wrote a draft of a script based on the 2001 novel by Eric Nylund, which served as a prequel to the first game in the series. Now, Latino Review has snagged a piece of concept art from Kasra Farahani (Wolf Man, Spider-Man 3, Hancock) that’s accompanying Beattie’s script and will be part of an eventual presentation to Microsoft. Click on the image above to see a larger version over at LR. Hang on Halo fans, they’re trying to make this happen for ya …

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
— We now know what Shia LaBeouf’s next ride might be, and it’s definitely not a used 2001 Honda Accord. Oh no, CHUD reports that Megatron will be back in the sequel! Not a giant reveal, I know, but they also claim — possible spoilers — that the baddie from the first film might come back to help the Autobots defeat “a new menace.” (Some say that menace is The Fallen, some say it’s LaBeouf’s future parole officer — we’ll check our sources and get back to you.) Not only that, but Megatron might return as a tank this time. Hopefully said tank will offer up enough protection from, ya know, tight corners and multiple shots of whiskey.

More Mummy and Justice League still has a pulse after the jump …

Possible MacBook Leak

What you see on the right are images afrom a Taiwanese site that shows off what is possibly Apple’s new MacBook. Assuming this is the real thing, it will come with a metal laptop lid which pretty much fits the direction where rumors of aluminum parts being used in the next iteration. Well, Apple has always been pretty secretive about their new products, so I won’t be surprised if this isn’t the real deal when Apple announces their new range of MacBooks. What do you think?

Not to be outdone by Rock Band’s premium drum controller, Activision has announced a collaboration with Logitech to produce a line of “premium instrument controllers.” No specific type of controller or prices were given, all we know is they will be “compatible with Guitar Hero: World Tour’s advanced feature set” and they will begin arriving “later this year.” Bruce Lancaster, the VP of Logitech’s gaming business compares their entry into the the market for fake instruments to their entry into the market for fake steering wheels. So, what kind of premium “instruments” are you looking for and how much are you willing to dish out for one of these babies?

hacker

Bloody Hell! I was just looking for proof of Alien Existence!

That is, in essence, the defense put forth by British hacker Gary McKinnon, who now faces extradition to the U.S. for hacking Pentagon and NASA computers, according to a decision made earlier this week by the British House of Lords, which is much like the U.S. Supreme Court.

McKinnon allegedly compromised over 90 computer systems. Those systems belonged to the U.S. Army, Navy, AirForce, Deparment of Defense and NASA. He allegedly caused $900,000 worth of damage to said systems. That sort of pissed the US government off. McKinnon says that the cost of the damage is being inflated by the prosecution and insists he was merely trying to prove the existence of aliens.

Britain’s House of Lords didn’t buy it. Perhaps the UK’s highest court simply didn’t ‘want to believe’. Forgive us Gary, we simply ‘couldn’t resist.’ [Source: USA Today]

Founded in 2002 - during the dark times of the Internet - Friendster became one of the pioneers of the social networking space. The company quickly got traction and even attracted the interest of Google (NASDAQ: GOOG). But, of course, MySpace and Facebook had ultimately beat out Friendster.

Yet, the plucky website hasn’t given up. In fact, the company has announced a $20 million round of venture capital. The investors include heavyweights like IDG Ventures, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Benchmark Capital, DAG Ventures and Founders Fund. In all, Friendster has raised $50 million.

Actually, Friendster is ranked as the 9th most trafficked site in the world, with a heavy penetration in Asia where it is the #1 social networking platform. There are about 75 million registered users.

Interestingly enough, Friendster has a broad portfolio of patents, which perhaps can be used as leverage when combating its rivals. What’s more, the company has done quite well in terms of adding features and providing a good user experience.

To help keep things on the right track, Friendster has hired Richard Kimber as its CEO. He was formerly a regional managing director of South Asia for Google. Apparently, he’ll be spending much of his time in Asia, trying to put together partnerships.

While social networking seems to be maturing in the U.S., there still are great opportunities in foreign markets. Furthermore, with $20 million more in the bank, Friendster can broaden its footprint and perhaps be a hot property for an acquisition.

Behold my 1000-plus words way of asking you this simple question: how many times have you seen The Dark Knight?

Here’s a little story I probably tell too often (it’s even in my “Meet the Team” bio): Long ago, at an art school that should remain nameless (I hated the place too much to give it any kind of credit), I studied film production, with the crazy notion that I would be the one to bridge the gap between Steven Spielberg and Quentin Tarantino (this was in the mid-90s, when all film students just wanted to be the latter). And while I wasn’t any good at being the kind of leader necessary to be a great director, I thought I was on track to (at the very least) become an Oscar-winning screenwriter.

Then, in the middle of my freshman year, I went to see 12 Monkeys. And when it was over, I stayed in the theater and I watched it again. I believe this to be the moment when I decided that I no longer wanted to be a filmmaker and wanted to be a film watcher. But it would take me another year of school — during which I changed the names in my dream from Spielberg and Tarantino to Gilliam and Hartley — to realize that I could be a … professional movie theater employee!

Years more would go by before I actually realized that I was better off writing about the movies than attempting to write for the movies, and fortunately all that time managing multiplexes gave me an extra niche to write about, as well. This week’s column, however, despite its long-winded introduction, is not about how I came to write “The Exhibitionist.” It’s actually more specifically about that repeat screening of 12 Monkeys 12 years ago. Because thanks to The Dark Knight’s box office success reportedly linked in part to repeat business, I’ve been thinking about the few movies that I’ve actually seen in the theater more than once.

I’m pretty infamous for my pancakes, or moreover, the look that pops up on my face when friends use Bisquick. It’s so easy to make your own, or make your own instant, that buying a box just seems silly. (I’ll post my favorite instant recipe this week.) But if you like to spend the time and make your own from scratch, you’ve got to check out the pancake recipe in the show above. Tomatza starts off with a run-of-the-mill homemade pancake recipes and adds meringue to improve the texture.

Have you ever had meringue pancakes?

Console modders out there have been doing crazy things with controllers for a while now, and while this latest piece isn’t as crazy as the one-handed Access Controller, it’s still good for a double-take — check out this wired 360 controller shoehorned into a DualShock3 shell, complete with green LEDs. THe modder, RDC, says it works great, rumble included, but that there’s no headset connector and the L2 and R2 triggers aren’t analog — both things he’s hoping to fix in the next version. We’d suggest keeping the DS3 buttons as well — while the colorful 360 buttons look pretty hot against that black case, we’d rather break this thing out and blow minds stealth-style.

[Thanks, Aguiluz]
