Megan Hauserman, one of the stars of I Love Money
Earlier this week I reported that VH1 was adding to its already awesomely skanky line-up. (I told you that was Megan Hausermann with the question mark on her face!) Throughout the week, the network has been announcing the cast of I Love Money, a competition show that will take all-stars from your favorite VH1 shows and let them compete for cold hard cash. The show premieres in July so that means this summer … just. got. better.

After the jump, I’ve got the cast and some predictions. You can check out VH1.com for full galleries of the cast members.

PS3 innards Head for Toshiba TVs

Toshiba will soon use PS3 technology in its new range of TVs and notebooks, where the SpursEngine chip (incidentally co-developed between Toshiba and Sony) will be able to handle majority of video and multimedia processing while freeing up the main processor’s resources for other tasks. Toshiba did run some benchmark tests, claiming that HD processing which used to take an hour now takes just one sixth that amount of time. Unfortunately, no PC games are optimized for the SpursEngine chip at this point in time, so you’ll still need a dedicated graphics card if you want to get some gaming in between your work time. I find it interesting that Toshiba and Sony went head to head against each other when it came to Blu-ray and HD DVD, but are pretty close buddies with the SpursEngine.

This weekend David Archuleta’s dad, Jeff was banned from rehearsals backstage at “American Idol.”

Jeff Archuleta was told he can no longer join 17-year-old son as David as he rehearses.  The producers made this decision because last week his actions cost them money:

Despite a warning, Jeff Archuleta insisted on altering “Stand by Me,” one of two songs his son sang on the show Tuesday. By adding a verse from Sean Kingston’s “Beautiful Girls,” the father incurred additional costs for “American Idol,” the person said. (AP)

Let’s see how David does without his dad pulling every string.

It’s always the comic book chicks you don’t expect. Variety has announced that Platinum Studios, Top Cow Production and Arclight Films are teaming up to bring Top Cow’s Witchblade to the big screen. No word on who will direct, or star, but production is expected to take place in Australia, starting in September. So expect a bunch of announcements on that front soon.

Witchblade has had a surprisingly long lifespan — it has been a best-selling comic book series with Top Cow since 1995, but most people remember the TNT television show which ran for two seasons. The story centers on a mystical, jewel-encrusted gauntlet that gives extraordinary powers to the chosen wearer — and that is always a specially chosen female in each generation. It also has the power to, apparently, magically remove all your clothes as seen to the right. (Something missing from the television show.)

I know I should be all “Yeah, this is exactly what I was talking about – comic heroines!” but it really isn’t. If done right, maybe, but she’s hardly what I was hoping for. While the Witchblade concept isn’t any goofier than admantium claws or eating the sun, I saw it as silly, and never warmed to it. Maybe it’s because I have never really understood Top Cow’s line of comics. All of my guy friends always say “You’re awesome because you don’t read those!” I never understood that either, because while they do specialize in kickass women like Witchblade and Tomb Raider, I never thought they were really written for chicks because of all the T&A. I always feel kind of funny reading them. (Yes, I’ve read them. What my guy friends don’t know when they praise me is that I have many issues of Tomb Raider hidden away. Well, I guess they know now. Oh well!)

Mike Griffith, the honcho over at Activision, has already released some statements regarding Guitar Hero IV (presumably). The statement? It’s coming sometime this holiday season. Griffith is already starting to talk up the title, claiming they’ve “put a lot of additional development resources, a lot of additional music licenses resources, a lot of additional hardware supplier resources against the title to fuel growth over next year”.

There are going to be some innovations for the next title — expect something more along the lines of Rock Band, like more instruments or vocals. That’s really all we know right now, but at least you know you’ll be plunking down more cash for more chances at heroism this holiday season.

There’s not a lot of details on this one just yet, but Activision CEO Mike Griffith has dropped word in a earnings conference call that the company’s upcoming Guitar Hero: On Tour game / controller combo will not only be released on its own this June, but in a new Nintendo DS bundle as well. No word on a price, unfortunately, nor is there any indication that the DS itself will be undergoing any Guitar Hero-inspired changes, but it seems like those little details should be making themselves known soon enough. A chair to peel
The Cabbage Chair, 2008

Nendo designed the cabbage chair for XXIst Century Man exhibition curated by Issey Miyake to commemorate the first anniversary of 21_21 Design Sight in Roppongi, Tokyo.

Miyake asked the designers to make furniture out of the pleated paper that is produced in mass amounts during the process of making pleated fabric, and usually abandoned as an unwanted by-product. The designers’ solution to his challenge transformed a roll of pleated paper into a small chair that appears naturally as you peel away its outside layers, one layer at a time.

Peeling

Resins added during the original paper production process adds strength and the ability to remember forms, and the pleats themselves give the chair elasticity and a springy resilience, for an overall effect that looks almost rough, but gives the user a soft, comfortable seating experience.

Since the production process is so simple, the designers thought that eventually, the chair could be shipped as one compact roll for the user to cut open and peel back at home. The chair has no internal structure. It is not finished, and it is assembled without nails or screws. This primitive design responds gently to fabrication and distribution costs and environmental concerns, the kinds of issues that face our 21st century selves. Thus, the cabbage chair fits active, optimistic and forward-moving “21st century people”, the kind of people who, to borrow a concept Miyake expressed during a meeting with Nendo, “don’t just wear clothes, but shed their skin”.

And we have the embed, courtesy of IGN. The quality is not ideal, so if you’re looking to freeze frame, you may want to view the Quicktime version over there.

The trailer is predictably creepy, but also typically vague. There is not much of a sense here as to what the movie will be about other than an unexplained phenomenon and missing girls — I felt compelled to go back and look at the plot details just to appreciate it a little better. With all the cool movies coming out this summer, I don’t know if I’m hooked enough to buy a ticket yet to this one. Nearly, though!

I know it can’t be — but the sadistic looking dude with the needle looks an awful lot like Alex Krychek.

If you need an additional Mulder and Scully fix, there are two viral videos that were released this weekend. They feature the two FBI Agents reminiscing about each other, which suggests this movie is a reunion on all fronts. They are a bit odd, mostly because they are so short and random. They’re included after the jump.

The X-Files: I Want to Believe opens July 25th.
