If it weren’t for RIM’s “help, we’re stuck in 2006 and can’t get out!” approach of topping this thing out with EDGE data, we’d be all over its warm embrace of an all-new form factor — but yeah, seriously RIM, what’s up with that? Boy Genius Report has outed a few more alleged specs of Waterloo’s first foray into the clamshell market, the Kickstart – and it looks like we can expect a 2 megapixel cam, SureType (as though we couldn’t have figured that out ourselves), internal QVGA and external 160 x 128 displays, WiFi, and a true 3.5mm headphone jack. We’re also seeing some new shots with T-Mobile branding, which makes sense considering the carrier’s longstanding efforts to be on RIM’s bleeding edge. Oh, and just for the humor factor, RIM appears to be drawing parallels between the Kickstart and a few… uh, “objects,” such as the “anodized color” similar to that found on an “urban nomad tool.” So this is how product development goes down — explains a lot!

Dell XPS 730 H2C Edition

Dell wants to get back to the top of its game by releasing the XPS 730 H2C edition which targets hardcore gamers, making this gaming desktop machine one of the most advanced of its kind on the planet - at least for a week or so. You know how fast computer parts get obsolete. Inside you will be able to find quad-core processors, quad GPU graphics solutions (!), and enough space to store up to four hard drives - which pretty much sums it all up. Judging by the specifications alone, you can be sure that your wallet will definitely suffer as the air-cooled Dell XPS 730 is priced from $3,999 upwards while the XPS 730 H2C costs at least a cool thousand more before it hits the sky. Of course, for that price you also get swanky materials like 2.4mm anodized aluminum on the XPS 730 H2C in Victory Red and Stealth Blue or brushed aluminum in Silver on the air-cooled XPS 730.

See our previous XPS 730 H2C story here.

Maserati is known for producing heart-achingly gorgeous cars. We think that having a Maserati in the driveway would be the perfect finishing touch for anyone planning a life of supreme opulence.

Maserati seems to disagree. The driveway is too far. It sees itself in your living room. Sort of.

Maserati has teamed with Italian fixture manufacturer Lumina to produce the first ever Maserati lamp. The best way to describe the lamp is that it’s a single light source sandwiched by two rectangular pieces of steel. The famed Maserati grille has been laser cut into the pleces of metal, allowing elegant light to billow forth. To control the temperature of light, users simply touch the Maserati trident in the center of the lamp.

This lamp is beautiful and exclusive. Just like the cars. [Source: Autoblog]

Japan Turns to ISPs in Suicide FightPages providing information about and encouragement for suicide are growing with alarming speed on the Internet. In Wales, 17 people have killed themselves seemingly in the hopes of earning the respect of their friends via online memorial pages. In Australia a man ended his life in his driveway using a robot he built using plans downloaded from the Internet.

In Japan the current trend is to induce death with deadly hydrogen sulphide gas, generated from bath salts and laundry detergent via a process described on many Web sites. In response, the Japanese government is now asking ISPs to take down any pages containing those instructions.

The request is a voluntary one, as the government is being careful to not be accused of censorship, but that just seems to make the request all the more futile. Trying to remove information from the ‘Net has proven to be impossible time and again, most recently with one company’s failed attempt to take whistle-blowing site Wikileaks offline, an effort that just resulted in more and more copies of the site springing up in countries around the world.

Our hearts go out to those who have lost loved ones to suicide, especially those who got support in their acts online. But, that doesn’t change the fact that hiding information is the wrong way to prevent it. [Source: Ars Technica]

Get this: the first North American carrier to offer up Nokia’s 8GB N95 isn’t AT&T. Heck, it’s not even a US-based operator. No friends, it’s Canada’s own Rogers Wireless. Just as we had heard late last month, the N95 8GB has officially landed in the Great North, and starting on May 6th, consumers up that way will be able to secure one for a hefty $399.99 with a three-year activation on the Rogers Vision Unlimited On-Device Mobile Browsing Plan. Don’t weep too heavily, AT&T users — your time should be coming soon.

Motozine ZN5 Rumor?

Check out the image above that features a Motorola handset containing a 5 megpaixel camera from Kodak - word on the street has it that this is the Motozine ZN5. This handset will definitely join the growing ranks of other 5 megapixel camera phones in the market, although it remains unproven compared to the others like the Nokia N95, LG Viewty and Samsung SGH-G800. Should this be the Motozine ZN5, it will definitely see Sony Ericsson’s Cybershot range of phones as its main rival, since those are also named after a popular photography brand. Features of this Kodak digital camera include autofocus and a xenon flash. No doubt it’ll be better than the majority of camera phones out there, but surely it won’t replace a dedicated digital camera anytime soon. There is no word on an European release just yet.

Meaning of Time DIY Clock

Here’s a clock that even the most simple minded among us will be able to cobble together - the Meaning of Time. This clock concept from Bomi Kim supplies you with the necessary mechanism to keep time, while you use your own imagination (or the lack of it) to supply the hour and minute hands. It works with virtually anything that can fit through the holes, although I would recommend on something more rigid just to make sure I won’t lose track of time.

England is already drowning in CCTV cameras, so it looks like Big Brother is starting to get creative in finding ways to deploy more: local councils are now outfitting crossing guards with camera-equipped stop signs. Yeah, crossing guards. With cameras in their stop signs. The cameras in the £890 ($1765) poles are fairly conspicuous, and the hope is that it’ll curb aggressive driving around crossing zones, which resulted in 1,400 incidents last year.

There’s no word on how anyone plans to measure the effectiveness of the program, but we’re certain the crossing guards who get passed over for the poles and end up with the hat-mounted cameras also being deployed will have a few choice words about things. [Source: Daily Mail]

Well here’s an interesting one. French iPhone blog iPhon.fr got these pics from an anonymous and unverified source, and while there’s no way of telling if the shots are legit, they certainly have a truthy ring to them. They follow what we know so far about the shape, size and color of the upcoming 3G iPhone, and while there’s always the possibility of knockoff, a Photoshop job, or some other evil plot to mislead us, we’re certainly not going to discount these shots entirely in the runup to iPhone’s second coming.

Update: Some commenters have pointed out that the size and shape of this phone bares a striking resemblance to LG’s Vu. As we said up above, we’re not ruling out some handy editing work here.

[Thanks, Janvier]

half a pitcher of beer.Well, you’ve done it. You’ve made it to another weekend. It’s time again to relax, have a drink, and have fun with your friends. Why don’t you start things off with some words of wisdom about a favorite weekend beverage?

Here’s a list of sayings and quotes about beer. All of them are great, ranging from Homer Simpson to Kaiser Wilhelm. My personal favorite, from way back, is Benjamin Franklin’s phrase: Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy. I couldn’t agree more, Mr Franklin.

What’s your favorite beer saying?
