I’ve been writing so much about the upcoming young adult vamp horror adaptation Twilight that I’m beginning to think I should read it. I probably would have if I were 10 or 15 years younger, as I used to devour every vamp or horror-themed YA book out there. (Oh, how I loved The Vampire Diaries.) Now it’s just picking at those old interests.

Anyway, that’s Stephenie Meyers’ first vampire family up above, and yes, that means the casting for the Cullen family has been completed. Following up the casting of Nikkie Reed and Robert Pattinson, MTV reports that Peter Facinelli (Can’t Hardly Wait) will play Carlisle, Elizabeth Reaser (the once faceless girl on Grey’s Anatomy) will play Esme, Jackson Rathbone (The O.C.) will play Jasper, Ashley Greene (King of California) will be Alice, and Kellan Lutz (Stick It) will play Emmett McCarty Cullen.

I have no idea if these guys are right for the roles, but I’m really getting a kick out of Facinelli with blonde hair. Go to MTV to see a bigger version of that pic, plus two more.

A few months ago, Kristin Kreuk was said to be Chun-Li in the upcoming Street Fighter film. Variety has now confirmed it and listed off some of the rest of the cast, and you might be just a little surprised. Aside from the Smallville star, there’s Michael Clark Duncan, Chris Klein, and Rick Yune. Yes, I’m talking about the Klein from Election and American Pie. Surprised? Filling out the rest of the cast is Moon Bloodgood, Taboo from Black Eyed Peas, Edmund Chen, and Cheng Pei Pei.

While Kreuk plays Chun-Li, Duncan will take on the role of Balrog, Yune, is the mystical Gen, and Klein will be Nash. As it breaks down in the game… Balrog* is M. Bison in Japan, and Vega outside. Since we’re talking Duncan, that means M. Bison/Balrog — a dude who holds a lot of similarities to a certain ear-biter. (This re-naming is ridiculous…) Gen, meanwhile, is an old, master assassin and friend of Chun-Li’s father, who blames himself for the violent path the girl followed. And lastly, Klein’s Nash — also known as Charlie. This guy is a first lieutenant in the US Air Force who died in earlier games, but shows up in later ones, and is a friend of Guile.

I guess if Ryan Reynolds can take on Blade, anything is possible. But every time I try to think of Klein in this role, I hear him in his do-gooder voice saying: “Dear God, thank you for all your blessings. You’ve given me so many things, like good health, nice parents, a nice truck, and what I’m told is a large penis, and I’m very grateful, but I sure am worried about Tammy.” And we can’t forget — Klein headed Rollerball.

*Post Edited: Variety says Bison, the villain, is still being cast, presumably that’s this Bison/Vega. Stay tuned for more name confusion!

On Tara Reid’s IMDb page, there’s a quote that says: “It would be the ultimate dream for me to win an Academy Award, be in love and have kids. Then I would say, ‘Life is great! I have done everything I wanted.’ I keep trying to get closer to that. I also think when that happens, people will finally leave me alone.” Perhaps this Oscar-winning moment will come now that she’s signed on to play a prostitute … Or maybe not.

According to Ace Showbiz, there’s a rumor going around that the actress will take on a role in Andrew Jones’ indie drama called The Beautiful Outsiders. The film focuses on Jason Starkweather (Cameron Douglas, son of Michael), a former addict who is released from prison after 6 years. In a post-prison halfway house, he tries to stay clean and ends up looking up ex-girlfriend Sarah (Reid), who works in a brothel to pay her way through school. Somehow, remeeting makes them go on the run, fleeing the law while getting reacquainted.

Ugh. Adding “aspiring student” to a prostitute character doesn’t make this fresh and new. This could be a great story, but enough is enough. The stripper/prostitute angle has got to stop.

The Explorers, 2005 - Archival ink jet

The explorers is part of Jennifer Zwick’s constructed-narrative series of photographs. They focus on bizarrely adventurous young girls populating beautiful but uneasy worlds. To create these images, the artist draws from childhood fantasies and memories, then constructs life-sized environments. By pushing these scenarios to an extreme conclusion, the girls become metaphors for our hyper-real childhood selves, where remembered emotions become stronger through time.
