PixelJunk Monsters is probably the cutest game on the PS3 not named LittleBigPlanet, but the game’s cuteness isn’t the extent to its awesomeness. It’s actually a pretty damn fun game, and that’s why we’re so happy to hear that Q-Games is currently developing an expansion.

Tim R., a gamer who shares our love with the game, emailed Q-Games expressing his need for some more PixelJunk Monsters, and was told “There should be some news about an expansion pack over the next few weeks, so keep your eyes peeled.”

So if you haven’t had enough of defending your tiny villagers from the rampaging monsters, you’ll apparently have some new content to satisfy you very soon.

GDC takes place this week and, while we’ll be reporting everything we possibly can, sometimes it’s nicer to hear things straight from the horse’s mouth. It seems Sony is aware of this and, on top of having numerous posts planned for the next seven days on the PlayStation.Blog, you can have Sony news sent straight to your mobile phone via Twitter. If you’re new to the service, simply sign up and start following the PlayStation.Blog Twitter feed. If you attach your cell phone number to your Twitter account, then it will allow you to receive your friends’ updates via text message.

Jeff Rubenstein, of the PlayStation.Blog, will be asking questions of various developers during the show and relaying their responses via the blog and the Twitter feed. Plus, who knows, if there are any interesting announcements made then you may hear about them without being anywhere near your computer. Just make sure you keep checking back here for all the latest PS3 news from GDC 2008.

It’s hard to deny that Apple’s MacBook Air advertisement is pretty catchy, and while the DS Lite doesn’t exactly pull off the whole envelope exit quite as elegantly as Cupertino’s latest lappie, it doesn’t do a half bad job representin’. In the spoof waiting for you after the jump, you’ll see a black DS Lite retrofitted into the MBA spot, and while the text, lighting and overall smoothness isn’t on par with the original, at least the music is spot-on. Click on though to see for yourself.

Make no mistake, we’ve seen curious job postings lead to changes in our favorite gizmos before, and hopefully, a recent ad on Microsoft’s website is no different. A listing seeking a Program Manager explicitly states that it’s looking for someone to “be involved in the next release of Xbox,” and wants that very individual to be “part of the Xbox Live team that’s responsible for creating a completely new way for mainstream audiences to enjoy the Xbox and Live.” Better still, the description suggests that the team would be “building the games, the console interface and logic, and the server support for a totally new Live experience.” Granted, there’s nothing more to go on than this at the moment, but we can’t help but be a teensy bit excited about the notion of an overhauled Xbox Live.

Microsoft hit us up with a statement today regarding its Xbox 360 HD DVD player in light of the format’s current woes. The company seems to think the news won’t have “any material impact on the Xbox 360 platform or our position in the marketplace.” Microsoft goes on to reiterate its line about the largest next-gen games library and its belief that “it is games that sell consoles.” For those of you hoping for some sort of Blu-ray attachment for the 360 — or a sense of purpose for that increasingly obsolete HD DVD player currently hooked up to your 360 — Microsoft does say that “we will wait until we hear from Toshiba before announcing any specific plans around the Xbox 360 HD DVD player,” which seems to imply there’s something to announce once HD DVD finally kicks the bucket, but at this point the prospect of a Blu-ray add-on still seems rather optimistic.

We spotted this Guitar Hero clone while strolling the floors of Toy Fair 2008. It’s hard to really get up in arms about “Guitar Fever” swiping intellectual property with Rock Band all copping Guitar Hero’s style, and it’s great that you can pick up one of these for $50 and plug it straight into your TV with no console required. In fact, all could be forgiven if it weren’t for the fact that we’ve heard scads of user-composed Commodore 64 tunes that sounded higher-fidelity than what this was pumping out.
