Action Police Deca Game

Here’s something for the pugilist in you - the Action Police Deca game from Konami. This unique arcade game allows you to release all your pent up frustration by punching people’s face via the two connected handles found on the arcade game machine. You play the role of a policeman who walks around the city, clearing it of riff raff with your two fists. While your opponents naturally outnumber you and hold plenty of other weapons, you work best by talking with your fists. I wonder how much sweat one can break while playing this…

Gold Cartridge For $15,000

If you happen to have $15,000 sitting prettily in the bank (or PayPal account) and are a huge fan of all things Nintendo, then this Nintendo World Championships 1990 Gold Cartridge is up for auction for $15,000, making this the Holy Grail of video game collecting. The auction closes on the 20th this month, and it makes me wonder who will be the lucky (daft) rich person who will actually fork out that insane amount of money. Word on the street has it there are only 26 of these available, with just 12 of them remaining in circulation.

Apple Not Keen On Gaming System

Looks like the iGame will have to wait - at least for the forseeable future. Word on the street has it that Apple won’t be developing a game system anytime soon, as Apple will maintain the iPod’s position as the “gateway” for all Apple gaming initiatives. Apple thinks that the iPod is good enough for games thanks to its OpenGL Embedded Systems software library, so they won’t need a faster device. I beg to differ, as there are only so many (few) genres of simple games that people will play on an iPod, and the lack of epic titles will definitely be a sore point for many a hardcore gamer. The DS fills this niche particularly well with its fair share of casual, short-and-sweet games as well as long, drawn out but absorbing entertainment software. If you own an Apple iPod, how often do you play games on it?

Flash Drives To Make Memory Jump

Looks like larger capacity solid-state drives will be rolling out of manufacturing lines pretty soon - at least from SanDisk anyway. SanDisk and Toshiba are currently working on a new 43-nanometer manufacturing process which will see SSDs released with the same capacity as those of today’s mainstream 2.5″ hard drives. I guess toting around 160GB of flash memory is but a pipe dream for most of us since the entry cost is prohibitively high, and there are also issues to be dealth with such as limited write cycles and slower data transfer speeds when it comes to transferring huge chunks of data. I think those two are bearable considering how people would prefer portability especially where mobile devices are concerned.

Voltaic Backpack Is 100% Green

Voltaic is known for its solar backpacks that help keep your laptop and gadgets charged while you’re on the go thanks to the power of the sun, but the company has taken a few more important steps towards being 100% green. They have just released a solar backpack that is made from 100% post-consumer waste. Give yourself a pat on the back if you pick this up, and stay strong should your friends tease you about lugging recycled plastic bottles around (that’s what it is made off anyway) instead of an actual backpack. I wish cell phone manufacturers can take the same initiative.

Road Pro 12V Sandwich Maker

Talk about making it easy to pile on those pounds even when you’re out on the road - the Road Pro 12V Sandwich Maker helps you whip up an instant snack whenever the munchies strike. This portable device is powered by the car’s cigarette lighter and might have an extremely limited menu range, but at least you don’t have to break your back lugging it around. I’d suggest using this only when your kids are matured enough to eat without causing a mess. As well all know, cleaning up a car’s upholstery from food stains can be quite the Herculean task. It retails for $19.50 a pop.

Wii Fit Is No Gym Replacement

The Wii Fit was not meant to be a replacement for a trip to the gym, according to Nintendo supremo Shigeru Miyamoto anyway. He did say, “I forgot to mention something important earlier: I don’t think Wii Fit’s purpose is to make you fit; what it’s actually aiming to do is make you aware of your body.” Being aware of my own body, eh? I suppose the warning signals are already there if I happen to drop my Wiimote on the floor and can’t see it due to a bulging beer belly. Remember folks - if you want to lose weight, buying video games is not the way to go. You’d best work on pounding the pavement or the treadmill at the gym instead.

Wiimote-proof Your TV

Having too much fun with the Wii could result in a damaged TV as many people have already found out since Nintendo’s latest generation console was released. Flat panel TVs aren’t cheap to replace either, so here’s a pretty nifty way to Wii-proof your TV courtesy of Panasonic. Panasonic has developed a specially treated panel that offers resistance of up to 4 joules of energy in their new plasma display - something that has not yet crossed over to the LCD TV line since the latter comes with flimsy LCD panels anyway.
