Sending robots to a battlefield is the dream of many a general as there won’t be any human lives at stake, but robots are not yet smart enough to make their own decisions on the battlefield. Enter HARV 0- the Head-Aimed Remote Viewer system that features a mounted remote video system on the robot complete with gyro equipped VR goggles for the user, allowing the robot to look wherever your head moves to. HARV has shown its capability in trials of improving mission performance by up to 400%, and comes with the following :-
36:1 optical zoom
Night vision Camera
Laser Target Designators
Stereo Audio
The only drawback would be its high price tag of $40,000 - but then again, surely there is no price high enough for a human life, is there?

Looks like word on the street has it that the Olympus E-330 DSLR will get a replacement in the form of the E-430, if a post on Photo-Forum.net is to be believed. The E-430 is tipped to come with a 12-megapixel sensor, a live view, flip-out 2.5″ LCD display, a wired remote option, a higher continuous shooting rate and a larger raw buffer. What is most convincing would be the image posted that looks real, but until Olympus makes an official announcement, this is relegated to the rumor mill.

BenQ rolled out its Mobile Internet Device at the MWC ‘08, bringing the following specifications to the table :-
- 4.8″ touch screen display at 1,024 x 600 resolution
- WiFi connectivity
- HSDPA connectivity
- Shake control system
Certainly, the last feature is the most interesting of all although I’m not too sure how intuitive it can get. Hopefully it’ll be easier than pressing buttons when you want to control menus or manipulate navigation windows. The BenQ Mobile Internet Device also sports a VGA camera and is powered by Intel’s Menlow platform. There is no word on pricing and availability.

When I first blogged about Samuel L. Jackson and Bernie Mac hitting the road together in the new film Soul Men last September, I likened it to A Mighty Wind. Now they’re getting one of the film’s actors, some Hayes, and a bunch of musicians. The Hollywood Reporter has posted that the kooky Jennifer Coolidge and Isaac Hayes have signed on, along with Sean Hayes (that Will & Grace dude, not an Isaac relative). Also joining the mix are musician John Legend, Affion Crockett (Welcome Home, Roscoe Jenkins), Adam Herschman (Walk Hard), Fatso Fasano (Weeds), and Jackie Long (The Comebacks).
So, Jackson and Mac are former bandmates who have to reunite when their third, who will be played by Legend, passes away. “The pair fight with each other all the way across the country when they’re forced to take a road trip together for a reunion concert.” Coolidge will play Mac’s love interest, Isaac will play himself in what I imagine will be some sort of short stint or cameo, and the other Hayes will take on the typical “obnoxious manager” role. As for the rest, there’s no word on who they’re playing.
The comedy is currently filming in Shreveport, Memphis, and LA, and producers are hoping to release this in October. So, what say you? Are you ready for a little male Soul?

Before I begin, you all need to know that I have not — nor will I ever — inject something into my ass. Now that we’ve cleared the air, anyone else watch this Roger Clemens thing this afternoon? What’s up with this whole thing? And why does it have to turn into this ridiculous circus, with athletes testifying in front of Congress — reports, analysis, blah blah blah. How does this help? When little Jimmy finds out that Roger Clemens won 150 Cy Young awards because of steroids, he won’t touch the stuff … because? Yes, great, they all did steroids. Let’s test everyone from now on. Perfect. Problem solved! Oh no, there needs to be another investigation. And then another hearing. And then more people need to testify. Why? WHY?
Look, steroids are a big problem. Parents need to teach their children not to trust people who want to stick needles in places reserved for a little light smacking on an alcohol-fueled Friday night. And if these kids don’t listen, then we need to use some scare tactics. Show them what steroids really do to a person. And since I’m a nice guy who wants to help, you can point your son or daughter toward the video below. After they watch it, you say: “This is what steroids do dammit! Love your body! Don’t give into peer pressure!” Then you can come back here and thank me. No, wait, don’t thank me. I’m just doing my job.
