Ah, business, you field of immeasurable opportunity! Today we bring you another chance to make your fortune — by leasing your body for advertising! The company Leaseyourbody.com will pimp market your bod to advertisers willing to pay you to wear temporary tattoos with their message.
A forehead placement is shown on its web page, but I’m guessing that other body parts would bring even more $$. Are you catching my drift, Brittany Spears? Don’t be surprised if Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) jumps into the market with a new product, GoogleCheeks, before the end of the year.
Ever wonder who was behind those soothing voices on the PA systems of airports and other public places? Apparently, until recently the voice of the London Underground was Emma Clarke. Emma was made redundant after officials found on her web site spoof messages she’d recorded, including
-
“Do not drop litter on the train. Please use the tramps provided.”
-
“Would the passenger in the pinstripe suit and £1000 glasses who obviously works for the media, please take one step forward onto the track as the train arrives.”
-
“Warning, this is an emergency. I’ve chipped a nail.”
-
“Here we are again, crammed into a sweaty tube carriage. And today’s Wednesday — only two more days until you can binge drink yourself into a state of denial about the mediocrity of your life. Oh, for Goodness sake, if you’re female smile at the bloke next to you and make his day. He probably hasn’t had sex for months.”
Finally, for those who spend a fortune on bottled H20 because they can’t abide tap water, the problem may be bacteria. Not enough bacteria, that is. Scientists in Australia have found that bacteria growing in the sand of sand filters are responsible for removing the unpleasant earthy taste that is often found in tap water. If Vitaminwater was this year’s hit, look for Bacteriawater to make it big in 2008.

With under a fortnight to go until Microsoft looses the Xbox 360 Fall Dashboard update on us, we’re still learning even more about what it will entail. The latest tidbit touches on the oh-so-zany social networking craze, as gamers will soon be able to browse the friends lists of their pals in order to connect with old buddies or get all up in the digital grill of complete strangers. Starting on December 4th, the default setting will enable your Xbox Live friends to browse your list at will, and if that just doesn’t set well with your conscience, you can hit the read link for instructions on how to spoil some fun prevent it.

Headline doesn’t make sense to you? Obviously, you’ve been missing Joystiq’s nightly “today’s most” videos. It’s okay, we’re a better blog anyway.
When we saw KazamaFury’s self-made God of War III promo video, we were blown away by the professional quality of this teaser. Sure, there’s no footage of God of War III to be found (that would be impossible). Regardless, it tantalizes and makes the years-long wait for the inevitable sequel slightly more painful.

You know those banner ads that claim you can get an iPod or an Xbox 360 or any number of other electronics for free just by filling out a survey? We’ve seen them absolutely everywhere, including our inbox (and our spam folder shortly thereafter). The Federal Trade Commission has seen them, too, and they don’t like them any more than we do. Adteractive, one of the most egregious offenders in the “free” ring of advertising, has been fined $650,000 for violating the CAN-SPAM Act.
The CAN-SPAM Act, introduced in 2003, requires fines and possible prison time for those who are found to be guilty of sending non-solicited e-mails. Adteractive, which runs FreeGiftWorld.com and SamplePromotionsGroup.com, was definitely guilty, but interestingly one of the FTC Commissioners voted against applying this fine. That’s because he thought $650,000 wasn’t enough — a dissenting opinion we agree with.
The FTC also slammed the company for its misleading advertising, where “free” products are often available only after people fill out multiple credit card applications or sign contracts for satellite television and the like. Buyer beware, especially if it’s “free”.

Creative has just confirmed that its Zen portable media player will receive a memory boost, touching giddy heights of 32GB. Take that, iPod touch! Unfortunately, if you’re interested in picking one up, you’ve got to wait until the second quarter of next year before it surfaces. For those who do not want to apply the principal of delayed gratification, the Creative Zen 2GB model is now available for $142. Would you choose this over the iPod range?

If you’re a regular subscriber to Alex’s Design View newsletter, then you’ve probably heard the SitePoint team moved offices recently — we’re now happily ensconced in our swanky new residence in the Paris end of Collingwood. To celebrate the move, we thought we’d throw the doors open to all our Melbourne customers… and have a book sale.
We’ve stuck some CRAZY prices on all our office book stock and the invitation is open to anyone who lives in Melbourne (or will be in Melbourne this week) to grab yourself a bargain. However, in typical SitePoint style, we thought we’d give the book sale a bit of a twist.
You’ve all seen the age-old “Buy two, get one free!” and “Buy one, get the second at half price!” deals that carpet warehouse sellers and CD wholesalers offer. But really, where’s the fun in that?
Here’s our offer: buy three books and you’ll get the chance to challenge one of the SitePoint team members to either a game of foosball or a high speed race on the office X-box. If you win, you’ll get a fourth book absolutely free.
Now that sounds like a lot more fun!
First through the door today was Rohan Baumann (below) who quickly snapped up a handful of books:

So if you’re in the Collingwood area, feel free to drop in and say hi before the doors close on Friday. Who knows, you just might get a chance to give one of SitePoint’s co-founders a foosball lesson!

Mark Ruffalo probably just sent an expensive bottle of something to his agent — he’s got a plum role in the new Martin Scorsese flick. Ruffalo will co-star with Leonardo DiCaprio in Shutter Island, an adaptation of Dennis Lehane’s 2004 novel. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ruffalo plays “U.S. Marshal Chuck Aule, who travels with his new partner (DiCaprio) to the eponymous Massachusetts island in 1954. As they investigate the disappearance of a patient from a hospital for the criminally insane, they encounter a web of lies, a hurricane and a deadly inmate riot that leaves them trapped on the island.” Oh good Lord, can’t wait for this one! But…
Does anyone else wish the Scorsese/DiCaprio collaboration would come to an end? Scorsese is my favorite director, and DiCaprio is a talented actor, but we’re not talking about the second coming of DeNiro here. Shouldn’t Scorsese share the wealth a bit, spread the love around? I don’t think the pairing has gotten stale yet, but why push it until it does? Oh well, anything that keeps Marty from movies about Tibetan monks is okay by me. Laeta Kalogridis (writer of — uh-oh — Alexander, Pathfinder and the Bionic Woman pilot) will adapt Lehane’s book, which I will be reading on an airplane in about three hours. Lehane is mighty hot in Hollywood these days. He writes for The Wire — the best show on television, and his books have been turned into Oscar winners (Mystic River) and Oscar hopefuls (this fall’s Gone Baby Gone, which was great baby great). Shutter starts shooting this March.

In a massive interview with Gamasutra, Mark Rein sat down to discuss pretty much everything that makes him, him and Epic Games, Epic Games. For the sake of space and your sanity, we’ll close the gap on the wide array of questions and focus on Mark Rein’s stance on the PSN. It’s a good one. The PSN is open-platform, meaning it will allow us to utilize user-generated content.
Rein’s thoughts? “It’s fantastic! I can’t understand why people are so nervous about what Sony… no, Sony’s wonderful. When they embrace user-created content, that’s what it means to be an open system. That’s why we’re on PlayStation 3 first — because they are embracing user-created content.” We sure are with Unreal Tournament 3 hitting this December. It’ll be very easy to load up the mods from the PC and transfer them onto the PS3 and if it’s any indication how future titles will utilize the open platform, then we’re in for a treat.

This certainly won’t be the first time that an exploding cellphone battery has been pegged with blame before all the facts shook out, but now it seems that the South Korean worker who perished yesterday was in fact not killed by his mobile. Reportedly, the National Institute of Scientific Investigation “said the injuries were too substantial to have been caused by a battery explosion,” and an unnamed medical examiner was quoted as saying that it was “difficult to conclude that the damage of internal organs was caused by [the explosion].” Details are still likely to unfold in the coming weeks, as it will be about a fortnight before autopsy results are analyzed and a final conclusion is drawn. Seems that “virtually impossible” notion from LG may be accurate after all, eh?
