Office Depot Featured Gadget: Xbox 360 Platinum System Packs the power to bring games to life!

Med-ePhone system reminds patients Looks like you no longer need mom to nag you - the Med-ePhone system does it for you, reminding you to take your medication on a regular basis. In addition to talking you into doing so, it will record and monitor patient medication adherence as well as health status over cellphones and landlines. The Med-ePhone system can also alert loved ones and/or care managers whenever the patient’s medications are missed, so they can do their part to encourage the patient to stick to the medical regiment. Med-ePhone users will receive a maximum of three daily reminders that include prompts to provide answers to simple health status queries. The Med-ePhone is currently under development and being tested, and will probably roll out for commercial use sometime early next year.

After many months of toiling in our secret underground laboratories, Dust-Me Selectors Version 2.0 is finally here!

If you’re one of the many people who made suggestions or commented on the original version, you’ll be pleased to know that the new version incorporates everything you asked for and more.

It was quite a challenge to bring all this together, particularly since Mozilla’s documentation is so … er … erratic (in fact for some functionality I had to look in Firefox’s source code just to figure out how it’s done!) But there’s nothing like a challenge to exercise the mind, and I think you’ll agree that the final result is well worth the gritty struggle.

To summarise the new features:

  • New spidering capability — it can spider either a Sitemap XML file, or an HTML sitemap (ie. it will spider one link deep from any page).
  • Shows which selectors have been used, as well as unused.
  • Data storage has been taken out of the preferences system and into the filesystem — data is stored in JSON files in a user-selectable
    folder.
  • Better support for Conditional Comments — it can now recognise any number of stylesheets within a single comment.
  • Extended automation so it can re-parse a page automatically whenever the DOM changes programatically.
  • Comprehensive user preferences.
  • Support for Flock.
  • A spiffy new icon, courtesy of Alex Walker

When you consider that the big-screen adaptation of Solomon Kane only just found a lead a little over a month ago, the producers certainly seem to be wasting no time in getting the film in gear. The Movie Blog now has a first look at the teaser poster for the action-adventure flick. The film is based on the adventure series of the same name by Conan the Barbarian creator Robert E. Howard about a cursed 16th Century swordsman. Back in October, Rome’s James Purefoy had signed to star as Kane, an immortal swordsman who is forced out of ‘retirement’ for an all-out battle between good and evil. In the stories Kane was described as “a somber and gloomy man of pale face and cold eyes, all of it shadowed by a slouch hat”. One look at this poster and you can see that Purefoy is an excellent choice.

The first appearance of Kane was in back 1928 in the magazine Weird Tales. Over the years, the character has appeared in over 13 stories and was even the subject of a 1976 Marvel Comic. A lot has changed since 1928, and some of the text has become the subject of criticism over its shall we say ‘antiquated’ views on race and women — you know you’re in trouble when you describe African tribesmen as, ‘closer to mankind’s beast ancestors‘. Then again, it was written in 1928, so what are you going to do? I guess we will just have to hope that Michael J Bassett (writer and director for the film) has some serious re-writes in mind. Solomon Kane is set for release in 2008.

Check out the full-size poster after the jump …

We had to read over the confirmations a few times before it finally sank in, but apparently, Verizon users that are somehow still interested in the XV6800 can place their orders and — gasp! — actually expect a handset to arrive. According to a slew of users over at Howard Forums, VZW is finally selling the aforementioned handset online( (via chat) and over the phone for $249 after all applicable rebates / agreeing to a two-year contract. Additionally, mclass555 substantiated the claims by posting up a shot of his mobile (seen above), which came with a home charger, USB cable, and an extra stylus. Interestingly, the carry pouch that came bundled in lacked the oh-so-necessary belt loop, which seems downright ludicrous, nay, unconscionable to us. Nevertheless, the XV6800 is available now to Verizon users who have stomached the wait, but for whatever reason, we just aren’t feeling the excitement.

[Thanks, Jeremy and mclass555]

While Orange seems to be holding out until the last minute to announce exactly how much its unlocked iPhone will cost, France Telecom CEO Didier Lombard has apparently dropped a few less-than-specific details on the matter in a recent interview, saying that it’ll cost “over 500 euros, but well below 1,000 euros.” Or, in US dollars, roughly somewhere between $740 and $1,500, but apparently closer to the former. A bit pricey to be sure, but it would certainly be cheaper than the €999 unlocked iPhone that T-Mobile is selling in Germany. As previously announced, a locked iPhone on Orange (complete with a two-year contract) will set you back €399. Look for things to get fleshed out further when Orange gets official with its iPhone offerings on Thursday.

[Thanks, Holger]

This black diamond encrusted PS controller is the most blinged up gaming item we’ve seen in quite some time. A gift for a friend of blog Boy Genius Report, this controller looks one part cool, one part tacky, and all parts uncomfortable. Like friendship, this is the kind of fandom that only money can buy.

After nine months of pregnancy and a baby shower, you’ve probably acquired a lot of stuff. Now that the baby’s here, what do you really need and what can you stuff back in the closet or sell on eBay? Based on our own experiences with our own young babies, here are a few things we’ve think you won’t want to live without. (And if you’ve got a Mom — or a new baby — on your gift list this holiday, read on).

Prince Lionheart Slumber Bear

Sleep — talk to any new mother and the subject is bound to come up. How is the baby sleeping? How are you sleeping? And most importantly, how do you get the baby to actually go to sleep? With this age-old question comes a reliable answer in the form of the $27 Prince Lionheart Slumber Bear. Though it looks like a typical stuffed bear swaddled in pink, blue or beige pajamas, the Prince Lionheart Slumber Bear is stuffed with an audio box that plays actual recordings of intra-uterine womb sounds. Just fasten the bear onto the crib bars with the included hook and straps, and the baby will recognize these ambient white-noise-like sounds and be immediately lulled to sleep. With a five-minute shut-off timer to save batteries, as well as motion and sound sensors to reactivate the recording when your little one wakes up, this bear is a must-have for frustrated mommies who could use more time to themselves. The audio box is removeable, and can also attach to a stroller or car seat, for example.
