YHOO logoYahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ: YHOO) shares are trading higher today after the company announced this morning that it has signed an online content deal with Sony BMG, a subsidiary of Sony Corporation (NYSE: SNE). The deal would allow people to upload files with music or video content by Sony BMG artists to Yahoo. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but YHOO said that Sony BMG would receive a cut of advertising revenue. If you think that Yahoo!, won’t fall by too much in the coming months, then now could be a good time to look at a bullish hedged trade on the stock.

After hitting a one-year high of $34.08 in October, the stock has declined over the past month. YHOO opened this morning at $26.93. So far today the stock has hit a low of $26.85 and a high of $27.25. As of 11:05, YHOO is trading at $27.09, up 35 cents (1.3%). The chart for YHOO looks bullish but deteriorating, while S&P gives the stock a neutral 3 STARS (out of 5) hold rating.

For a bullish hedged play on this stock, I would consider a January bull-put credit spread below the $22.50 range. A bull-put credit spread is an options position that combines the purchase and sale of put options to hedge risk in case the stock doesn’t do what you think but still leverage nice returns. This particular trade will make a 12.1% return in just 9 weeks as long as YHOO is above $22.50 at January expiration. Yahoo! would have to fall by more than 17% before we would start to lose money.

YHOO hasn’t been below $22.50 by more than a few cents in the past year and has shown support around $25 recently. This trade could be risky if Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) continues to take market share away from Yahoo!, but even if that happens, this position could be protected by strong support the stock formed around $22.50 when it bottomed at that level back in July, August, and September.

Bipasha Basu and Arshad were absolutely shocked the way a group of white men roughed them near Glassy Junction, a popular Indian pub in Southall, West London, some months back. Both were verbally attacked by some white men. Both Bipasha and Arshad claimed that they were racially abused while shooting for their latest film ‘Dhan […]

Web Directions NorthThe special rate for buying your tickets to Web Directions North, held in Vancouver in February next year, ends in just over a week.

While I’ll always have a soft spot for the original Web Directions South conference held in Sydney each year, there’s no denying that its sister conference — now in its second year — has one of the most enviable programs going. With a huge line-up of incredible speakers and two days of excellent workshops, WDN is undoubtedly up there as one of the conferences to attend for web professionals.

But on top of that, this conference plays its trump card by offering two days of skiing or snowboarding with speakers and other attendees.

SitePoint will be there as proud sponsors of the conference, and many of SitePoint’s recent titles will be available for sale to conference-goers. Additionally, Cameron Adams (author of several SitePoint books) will be delivering a workshop titled Frontiers of JavaScript. If you’ve learned your JavaScript skills from any of these books, you’ll enjoy this full day of hands-on learning from The Man In Blue himself.

Pah, Vancouver might have great skiing and boarding, but Australia has beautiful beaches. Oh drat, Vancouver has them too — sounds like the perfect place to hold a conference…

Over the weekend, a number of different sites received tips regarding the soon-to-be-released Justice League of America cast. The rumors come as The Hollywood Reporter tells us production on the film might have to be postponed due to them being without a finished shooting script, while options on actors who were screen tested are about to expire. I’ll discuss whether or not this film is even worth the effort in this week’s Monday Morning Poll, but for now let me go down the list and tell you who is (according to rumors) up for each role:

  • Batman: Armie Hammer: Random actor who’s appeared in Flicka, and in one episode of Veronica Mars. He’s 21. (Sources: Batman on Film, Superhero Hype)
  • Superman: Scott Porter, 28 (Friday Night Lights TV show, Speed Racer) is up for this role, according to AICN and Cinema Blend, though IESB claims he never read for that part and instead was at one point up for The Flash. Meanwhile, Superhero Hype lists D.J. Cotrona, 27 (Skin, Windfall) as having nabbed the Man of Steel role.
  • The Flash: Adam Brody, 28 (The O.C.) has been signed for this role, if you listen to AICN and IESB. However, Superhero Hype claims it’s gone to Anton Yelchin, 18.
  • Green Lantern: Everyone believes this role has indeed gone to the rapper-turned-actor Common, 35.
  • Martian Manhunter: At this time, no one has received information regarding this character.
  • Wonder Woman: Megan Gale, 21 (Stealth), according to SH.
  • Talia al Ghul: Everyone believes this role will go to Teresa Palmer, 21.
  • Aquaman: Santiago Cabrera, 29 (Heroes), according to SH.
  • Cinematical Man: According to our own inside studio sources, Scott Weinberg is a lock for this role. Age unknown.

So there you have it. You’re all up to date on the currently rumored cast. Warner Bros. is supposed to officially announce the roles this week, however that could change if production gets postponed.

If you’re already drafting a plan of what stores to hit in what order come Black Friday, and you’ve been craving Samsung’s forthcoming BlackJack II, we’ve got yet another locale that you’ll need to show yourself at. CNET has it that Sammie’s SGH-i617 will be landing on AT&T tomorrow, and just in case you still weren’t connecting the (dark) dots, it’ll initially be available only in black. Reportedly, the red edition is slated to surface around December 12th, and both will demand $149.99 and your name on a two-year contract. Don’t worry about showing up early, though — the chances of this thing selling out before noon tomorrow (or ever, to be frank) are slim to none.

Office Depot Featured Gadget: Xbox 360 Platinum System Packs the power to bring games to life!

Filed under:

While we’ve certainly seen a few items get returned without, shall we say, everything in tact, this example just might take the cake. Details are fairly light, but the long and short of it is that some sly customer managed to return an Xbox 360 and get a full refund, but the most critical components weren’t repackaged. Reportedly, the store decided to allow the refund just this once without thoroughly checking the innards, and sure enough, the decision came back to bite ‘em. Packed within was a gutted console (stuffed with a used textbook, no less), a bunch of totally random cabling and an official Xbox 360 headset. Needless to say, the store got burned torched, but if the culprit received his / her refund as a credit card charge-back and / or was caught on camera, we’ve all ideas the retailer will get what it’s owed one way or another.

Office Depot Featured Gadget: Xbox 360 Platinum System Packs the power to bring games to life!

Between classes and work, I’ve pretty much totally forgotten there ever was a holiday break at all. I’m pressed for time right now even, so no time to refine and present some awesome new content for you all. But it’ll be up quickly enough, and in the mean time, here’s a video that perfectly portrays how I feel inside my head right now, with all the rushing around.

I think I have a little dancer like that flinging herself around inside my brain all the time. And, comment back, readers: I’d like to know what you think of the idea of an every-now-and-again SayNoToCrack webcomic. It probably wouldn’t be a storyline or anything, and it might not even be any good (you’ve seen my art already, soo…yeah). But if you’re interested, I’ll give it a try and we can see from there if it’d be worth anything.

It appears that, for some reason or another, the PS3 offering of Half-Life 2: Orange Box might not be up to par with that of its PC and Xbox 360 counterparts, according to 1UP. After previewing the near final build of the game, they were met with framerate inconsistencies during the Half-Life series that made the game look more like a “slideshow” and thusly rendered it nearly unplayable.

However, Portal perfectly played fine, but they weren’t able to play much of Team Fortress 2 because of server connection issues.

At this point, you’re probably wondering what the deal is and why can’t such a great development company like Valve get one of their shining jewels up to snuff, right? Well, one reason is probably because Valve isn’t behind the PS3 port like it was for the other versions. Yeah, we’re being serious. An unspecified internal EA development team is responsible for the PS3 version. With a Dec. 11 release date, we suppose there is still time for this issue to be rectified, but how many time have we, as gamers, told ourselves that in hope of getting a decent game? Probably way too many.

[Thanks for the tip, Conor!]

Target Adding Sales of Used Gadgets

Amazon.com has found great success with its Marketplace, a sort of better-structured eBay enabling users to post their own used goods for sale on the site. Now it seems Target wants to get in on the action, but it won’t allow just anyone to sell their wares on its site, Target.com. The company is posting so-called pre-owned electronics to the site, but it will only be re-selling those electronics items returned to their brick and mortar stores.

The company claims that many of the electronics returned by customers are in “perfect working order” and simply need to be re-packaged for sale again. However, once opened, those items are technically used and can’t be re-sold as new. So, add a new section to your website and, hey — presto, cleared inventory.

Right now, the selection is fairly limited, including just iPods, video game consoles, and televisions. You can get yourself a 30 gig iPod Video for $180, compared to $250 for the cheapest iPod Classic, the 80 gigabyte version. If you’re a fan of the taller, thinner iPod Nano, a pre-owned eight gigabyte version is $170, compared to $200 for a new one from Apple, or $180 from Amazon.

Not exactly a huge savings by any means, but if Target is your Vendor of choice and you like to save a few bucks, this could be the used gadget vendor you’ve been looking for.

In Hollywood, it seems like the more in love a couple is, the more they start to resemble each other. In the ’90s there was uber-couple Brad Pitt and Gwyneth Paltrow, who sported matching blonde bobs. And Posh and Becks have never been shy about letting their outfits prove their togetherness. So when on-and off-screen sweethearts Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens turned up at last night’s High School Musical 2 DVD release gala wearing matching leather jackets, we weren’t sure if it was the sweetest thing ever or just a little too cute. So we’ll leave it up to you. Tell us: What do you think about Zac and Vanessa’s matching looks? Would you ever coordinate your outfit with your significant other?
