Transcend JetFlash V90 Classic

The Transcend JetFlash V90 Classic keychain USB flash drive will add some bling to your corporate portfolio, boasting a distinctive metallic swirl pattern which attracts the eye whenever light catches it at different angles. It might look a wee bit too dainty for some folks, but you can be assured that the shiny metal casing offers some much needed protection for your valuable data within. The Transcend JetFlash V90 Classic measures 33.8mm x 13.1mm x 4.5mm and weighs a mere 7 grams. It will come in only one capacity - 2GB, but I would’ve preferred to see different capacities for different budgets. Still, you can pick this puppy up for $35 from Brando. If you can’t dazzle your colleagues with your cheap suit, at least this USB flash drive will.

Valleywag reports that Fortune’s editor, Andrew Serwer, posted a blog entry October 19 about the wedding of Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG) co-founder Larry Page to his girlfriend Lucy Southworth. (Fortune and BloggingStocks share the same corporate parent, Time Warner (NYSE: TWX)).

But when Valleywag wanted to write about the post, it had disappeared from Fortune’s website. When Valleywag went to Google’s cache, the reference to the Page/Southworth wedding was gone. Fortunately for those interested in the details of the post, Yahoo! (NASDAQ: YHOO) had a copy of the original.

By the way, the Serwer post said that Page and Southworth were getting married on December 7, and those attending the blessed event will need passports, which suggests it will be outside the U.S. Valleywag now suggests that the wedding could be held on Richard Branson’s Necker Island. But one question remains unanswered: if you know why Fortune and Google removed this post from their sites, please comment below.

Wal-Mart Gets $200

Of all the retailers out there, Wal-Mart probably wouldn’t rate high on environmentalists’ lists of green retailers. But,that’s where you’re going to have to go if you want to get your hands on a new self-titled “green” PC that will cost just $199.

The Everex TC2502 gPC is a low-powered and limited-spec desktop computer that runs a version of Linux called Ubuntu rather than the much more popular Windows or Mac operating system. Ubuntu is a free operating system that looks and feels much like the competition, but doesn’t offer the compatibility that even a Macintosh can offer to the ubiquitous Windows PC.

Linux has gained a lot of popularity over the past few years, finding itself installed in all sorts of devices. And, there are software applications out there for the operating system that will do everything you can do on a PC, including opening and reading files from most of the applications in Microsoft’s Office suite. However, Office itself is not available, nor are most games. But given the seriously lightweight nature of the specs for this machine, you’d be hard-pressed to get any modern games to run anyway.

Those lightweight specs lead to reduced power consumption — hence the “g” in the gPC name — which is obviously aimed at the eco-mindful consumer.

As Engadget points out, however, this computer is rather wasteful in other regards. Internally, the system uses miniaturized components to help reduce power consumption and cost, but ironically the manufacturer throws them all into a big, plastic, non-biodegradeable full-sized case. Apparently this is due to Wal-Mart research that indicates its customers consider a larger PC to be a more powerful one, a notion that will make smart shoppers everywhere shake their heads.

a battery that converts sugar into energyWe all know that eating sugar gives a temporary burst of energy. Just watch a couple of kids after a night of trick or treating, their energy peaks and then plummets. You may have even said once or twice, “I wish I could harness that energy.” The engineers at Sony have taken that idle wish and turned it into something of reality. They’ve created a battery that runs on sugar.

Sadly, it can’t run off your kid’s leftover Halloween candy. It converts juice, soda or any other sugary liquid into enough electricity to power smaller gadgets and appliances. Personally, it sounds like a great use to me for all the high fructose corn syrup this country produces. And, if you get thirsty, you can just take a swig (I’m kidding, I imagine that wouldn’t be recommended).

It’s okay, you don’t have to say a word. We know exactly what you’re thinking. “Please, PS3 Fanboy. Can I see some more Gran Turismo 5 Prologue screenshots?” Ask and you shall receive, for we have a load of new screenshots just waiting your eager eyeballs to peruse over them.

To mix things up a bit, we’ve snuck a photograph taken at a racetrack into the gallery. First person to find it wins a grand selection of prizes which, sadly, don’t actually exist. It will be a fun exercise in futility, nonetheless. The gallery can be found below - go and have a look.

The Black Eyed Peas singer must have been feeling nostalgic for the ’80s because for a recent press conference in Australia, Fergie took out her old crimping iron. We know the singer likes to take fashion risks and even beauty risk, but we were really hoping that crimped hair just stayed put in the ’80s — or at least on the runway. It looks great on stage, but we think we’ll skip this for everyday life. But we want to know what you think! Tell us: Would you crimp your hair like Fergie?

Nintendo’s as cagey as tech companies come, but the WSJ is reporting on a recent and unusual high level, high impact strategy presentation where in top ‘Tendo execs revealed what’s described as a change in its current business model: using its foothold in the video game market to sell casual gamers and non-gamers products focused more on utilitarian functions. You know, boring stuff — like, stuff that’s not games. What they want to sell Nintendo wouldn’t specifically say, but they’re focusing first on the flagship portable, the DS, rolling out what the WSJ describes as “features [that] will be useful in places like train stations, amusement parks or museums and [that] could be accessed wirelessly,” as well as a new “television-programming feature for the Japanese market… to check television listings, run searches by keyword and genre, and highlight each family member’s favorite programs.” Maybe this pseudo-DVR like functionality will somehow play into their forthcoming 1seg tuner, but precisely how the rest of this completely underwhelming and disappointing news will manifest itself is currently up to one’s imagination — something Nintendo’s apparently lost. We have heard, though, they might be getting back into the playing card business, and possibly in keeping with that vertical integration, opening up a string of Nintendo themed casinos. Not a bad business to be in. [Warning: subscription required]

Update: TG Daily is reporting Iwata also said Nintendo has no plans to drop the price on the Wii. We’re stunned. Like, wow. Nintendo’s not intending to drop the price on their already super cheap console that’s been sold out for a year straight? Search us.

Tartan Racing team picks up $2m prize

The Tartan Racing Team from Carnegie Mellon University walked away with the $2 million first place price after beating out on five other teams who completed the DARPA Urban Challenge this weekend. Using a fully automated Chevy Tahoe, this driverless vehicle navigated an urban environment with the best time and least amount of errors. It is interestin to note that this challenge involved such vehicles to obey traffic laws as well as avoid obstacles while getting to their destination without any outside help whatsoever. The Stanford Racing team took second spot with $1 million while the Victor Tango team from Virginia Tech pocketed $500,000 for their third place efforts. Looks like fully autonomous vehicles are still a long way off in the future, although such strides are commendable.
