Absolutely no surprises here folks, but we’ve managed to attain a few photos of the box of the new 40GB PlayStation 3 due to officially launch on November 2nd. These shots come from the storeroom of an unnamed major retail store so it’s not like anyone’s selling them just yet, unlike the botched launch of a certain other games console. Anyway, if you’ve been hankering to see “40GB” printed on a PS3 box, now’s your chance. Check out the gallery below.

Office Depot Featured Gadget: Xbox 360 Platinum System Packs the power to bring games to life!

Did you catch today’s Penny Arcade strip? Well, hope you did — it’s a fun one, just for Ratchet & Clank fans. Check it out.

Of course, as is usual for the Penny Arcade duo, they have a blog entry detailing their experiences with the game. “The new Ratchet & Clank is a marvel, further proof that Insomniac is the surest thing that platform has going for it. You’ll travel to lush, hitch-free worlds where the brutal load times found in other Playstation titles are nowhere to be found. It’s something everyone with the system will be playing, and it’s executed at a level that should generate jealousy in the non-owner.”

We’d have to agree. Check out PS3 Fanboy’s review of the game next Tuesday (right before it “officially” ships to stores!).

That’s what has me shaking my head and getting a bit nervous when I look at this website.

It’s an online store for all your nuclear needs: radioactive ore, nuclear lab kits, meteorites, uranium, super magnets, and so much more.

For all you aspiring evil geniuses out there wondering how on earth you’re going to find the radioactive collectibles you need, look no further. I don’t know, maybe this stuff is harmless and I’m intimidated for no reason. However, this snip from the super magnet page really is a gem (and provides a great “who on earth would WANT this?!” moment):

“Our larger magnets can easily bruise fingers and
even break finger bones as they attempt to connect together….If you or someone in your household has a PACEMAKER or another electronic surgical implant, don’t even think of ordering these items.

Fun, right? Those were the little magnets. Here’s what they say about the super magnets:

“Beware - you must think ahead when moving these magnets.

If carrying one into another room, carefully plan the route you will be taking. Sensitive instruments like computers & monitors will be affected in an entire room. Loose metallic objects and other magnets may become airborne and fly considerable distances
- and at great speed - to attach themselves to this magnet.
If you get caught in between the two, you can get injured….Of all the unique items we offer for sale, we consider these items the most dangerous of all. Our normal packing & shipping personnel refuse to package these magnets - our engineers have to do it. This is no joke, and we cannot stress it strongly enough - that you must be extremely careful - and know what you’re doing with these magnets.
Two Super magnets can very easily get out of control and break fingers and even your arm if opposing poles fly at each other.”

HOLY COW. They’re selling HAND BREAKING/HOME DEBILITATING MAGNETS on the internet!? Who would want those?

…Don’t answer that.

Pumpkin Nut BreadWell, with all of the pumpkin-related Halloween stuff we did yesterday, this seems like it’s a day too late, but there’s still plenty of pumpkin food to talk about.

It’s Pumpkin Day, so maybe this is the day you can go to your supermarket or your favorite pumpkin-selling farmstand to get some pumpkins for your home and/or yard. But what about recipes? PumpkinNook.com has a ton of recipes, including many pumpkin pie, cookie, and cake recipes. Here’s a recipe for Pumpkin Custard from Bon Appetit, while PastryWiz has one for Pumpkin Nut Bread.

Don't Mess with MicrosoftYou know the discounts Microsoft gives to starving students? The ones priced low enough to encourage students to not illegally download and share things like Windows and Office? Yeah, well, it seems some enterprising businesspeople got the wrong idea and re-sold those copies — about $29-million worth — illegally for the full retail price. They’ve been caught, and the husband and wife team behind the scheme were given five years in prison each, along with $25-million in fines.

According to Infoworld, Mirza Ali, 60, and Sameena Ali, 53, the husband-and-wife owners of Samtech Research, purchased Microsoft software at the academic discount for students, then illegally re-sold it to others at higher prices. The couple funneled profits through sub-corporations, including a construction company run by their son, and apparently wired $300,000 to Pakistan for safe keeping.

The couple was captured as part of a two-year FBI and IRS investigation called “Operation Cyberstorm,” making us wonder if federal investigators are fans of old-school strategy games.

Those that make a habit of chatting it up all day in their vehicle may want to consider Elan’s new Vero ENB-100 device, which the company claims is the “world’s first” solar-powered Bluetooth hands-free car kit. As you can no doubt surmise, it promises continuous charge-free operation as long as there’s sunlight, and it’ll even give you 15 hours of operation on a single charge if the weather isn’t cooperating. Otherwise, you can expect the usual array of hands-free calling features, including a noise-canceling, omni directional microphone, a 1 watt “high-performance” speaker, and a voice dialing feature to let you keep your hands on the wheel. From the looks of it, however, this one’s only available in the U.K. at the moment, where it’ll set you back £60 (or about $120), although there’s nothing to stop you from ordering one.
