Thinking of sprucing up the desktop with a functional accessory that looks good at the same time? You won’t really go wrong with the Nexspeaker FS-701SW sound system. It comes in the form of a boat, featuring 7.5 watt left and right channel speakers that are integrated into the sails itself. As for the boat’s hull, it doubles up as a 15-watt woofer for a little bit more ‘oomph’ in your music. This is guaranteed to be a conversation starter, and makes to be a great ice breaker at home or at the office. The Nexspeaker FS-701SW sails into your home or office for approximately $57 a pop.

The Mobius MKII loudspeakers certainly look a world apart from other speakers on the market. While they look pretty small from the photo, it actually stands at 38″ tall and houses four drivers in its 8″ bipolar array that rests comfortable on top of the speaker to produce 360 degrees of sound. This orb will house a couple of 1″ silk dome tweeters as well as a pair of 6″ midbass drivers complete with neodynium motors that are mounted to the back. The Mobius MKII will be able to play up to 20kHz of audio. Choose from a wide range of high quality metallic and piano finishes to suit your living room when the Mobius MKII is released sometime in spring next year. While no concrete price point has been set yet, it won’t be too far off to speculate a price range between $10,000 to $15,000.
Snowpulse from Switzerland has developed the Lifebag, which is essentially an airbag that was specially designed to protect the head and thorax in the event of an avalanche while keeping you afloat so that you won’t be buried under tons of snow. It is deployed manually like a parachute, where the 150-liter shield takes less than three seconds to inflate. The Lifebag will deflate after 90 seconds, giving you a tiny air pocket to breathe should you actually get buried. The Lifebag retails for $1,100 and will arrive Stateside sometime next December.

While the Laws of Robotics were designed to preserve human life at all costs, that doesn’t mean it can’t give you the one finger salute whenever you mistreat it. Researchers at Japan’s National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) have successfully developed an autonomous humanoid robot which is capable of recognizing and using body language in order to get the message across. This would bode well as the robot tries to communicate with young children, the elderly as well as computer-illiterate. It is packed with technology that enables it to observe, recognize and remember human behavior, but chances are it is still a long time in coming before you can get something like the T-800’s caliber in real life.
Looks like the HD DVD camp aren’t going to take things lying down, with a customary blurry spy pic of Wal-Mart offering a Toshiba HD-A2 HD DVD player that will retail for $198, dipping under the magical $200 mark. These units won’t go on sale until the third of next month with each store receiving 18 of such units. It seems that this will be a “non-replenishable item”, so chances are once it is gone, you won’t be able to get it at that price any more. We’ve said it before -
According to Jon Rubinstein, Palm’s new chairman, his company is still approximately one and a half year off the mark from launching a new Linux-based operating system. Guess the new Palm OS will have to wait until 2009 - can the company hold out till then with the sure deluge of smartphones that will be released between now and then? Not only that, this statement is contradictory when placed side-by-side with CEO Ed Colligan who stated that this Palm OS will be released by the end of next year.
LG has just rolled out the E300-AP75K notebook that will be an addition to the XNOTE line of notebooks, making it one of the smallest and lightest systems that comes with a hybrid hard drive (160GB hard drive with 256MB flash memory). Other features include a DVD Multi Recorder, a 1.3 megapixel camera, an HDMI output, WiFi connectivity, and an integrated ATI Radeon X1250 graphics chipset. An Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 2.2GHz processor will run at the heart of things. It tips the scales at a mere 1.3kg and will retail for approximately €1,200 in Korea.
