Just a few days ago I shared a report from Twitchfilm, and in that report it was stated that Fox was planning to “tame” their video game adaptation Hitman. Further, we also heard that director Xavier Gens had been removed from the editing process. Well, either the earlier reports were false or there’s been a change of mind over at Fox, because the Hollywood Reporter blog has an update for us…
“A source close to the project and a Fox rep both confirmed that director Xavier Gens is still on board, and the movie will absolutely come out with an R rating. Sources say it will most likely be a “hard R,” in fact,” is what we’re being told. Twitchfilm responds with much skepticism: “If Gens is still in control why was an outside ‘consultant’ brought in to go over the edit of the film at all, and which of the two actually has more power considering that Gens is currently not even on this continent while [ film editor Nicholas] De Toth is working away?”
So here’s what I’m guessing, not that any of this matters one whit: The R rating was always a certainty, but Fox probably had other “creative differences” with their young director. All I care about is this: Does Hitman kick ass? The early marketing push is certainly slick enough, but I’ve been burned on enough video game movies by now. Guess we’ll find out what’s up when the flick hits on November 21.

For all of you fervent Treo fans chomping at the bit to get your hands on the 500v, here’s an interesting piece of information which may stir “things” deep inside your mind and body. Apparently, the Windows Mobile-equipped smartphones will be touting a UI that’s a pretty big step away from Microsoft’s staid and standard operations. According to a slow, yet detailed video we’ve seen, the new interface will be pulled together using a completely revamped “start menu,” (similar to the UI which Samsung is employing on its SGH-i620) which gives you much faster access to applications and settings, and has a completely new look. Menus and application icons also appear to be a departure from what we’ve seen in other WM devices, giving the interface a wholly unique aspect. Check the video after the break and see for yourself.

We’ve seen plenty of unnecessary mods in the past, but this latest creation from PlayStation.com forum member Dragonpower certainly ranks among the more superfluous, with it boasting just enough excess to make up for its lack of common sense. Apparently, Dragonpower found that his PS3 just wasn’t cool enough for his taste, so he got drilling and strung some tubes filled with liquid coolant through the console, with a couple of extra fans thrown in for good measure. That seems to have resulted in a temperature of just 32ºC (or 90ºF) under a heavy load, with the console itself said to be “almost dead silent.” Dragonpower apparently still sees more room for “improvement,” however, as he says this mod is still in progress.

I design Jewelry in the form of aerial patterns of a city. My vision is to have in miniature the multitude of patterns that one can see from a distance.
I research on how digital technologies make us re-evaluate the physical world. We perceive a new physicality through digital materials. In this project, I study the materiality perceived through aerial technologies. I believe that this modification of our perception of the environment is developed through our experience with the digital.
Now that we constantly travel by plane, use GIS, google map, satellite imagery, our vision is expanded. Our everyday objects have a language that adapt itself to our influences. As much as the car has influenced painting and the representation of space and movement, I want to show how the use of new technologies can change our way to design personal objects as exemplified by Aerial Jewelry.

This last weekend, I drove down to Washington, DC to visit a good friend who moved there from Philly in July. After I had had the opportunity to admire her adorable apartment and fantastic neighborhood, we hopped into my car and headed for the Maryland suburbs to hit several locations of the Value Village thriftstore chain.
In addition to picking up a new set of measuring cups for $1.20 (the 1/3 cup measure is missing it’s handle) and a set of measuring spoons for $.80 (they looked as if they’d never once had the opportunity to measure anything) I acquired six new cookbooks. A couple are old Sunset guides to entertaining or casseroles (don’t worry, I plan on sharing some of the good recipes with you all) but one seems to be especially worth the two bucks I paid for it.
It’s call Simply in Season and is a collection of recipes (primarily vegetarian) that are organized by season. It’s put together by the Mennonite Central Committee, the same folks who brought us the More with Less cookbook (another terrific cooking resource that I’ve used many times over the years). One recipe from the book that jumped out at me is for a Chard Cheese Bake. Chard is one of those plants that continues to give, making it a favorite of home gardeners and CSA farmers alike. It can be gotten cheaply at grocery stores and farmers markets and doesn’t cook down to nothing the way that spinach does. This recipe is sort of like an easy quiche without a crust and I imagine that this would be equally good in the morning for breakfast or as a dinner side dish. The recipe is after the jump.

We’ve been promised this before, and we’re not really sure that the rumors are any more reliable this time around, but here goes: Sources are telling Business Week that Apple plans to open up the iPhone to third-party applications.
Currently, running third-party apps on the iPhone is a complex and dangerous operation that can render your iPhone completely useless.
The sources presented few details, but expect that the developer kit will be revealed at the MacWorld Expo on January 15. The belief is the delay has less to do with purposely frustrating developers and more to do with the release of Leopard, which many believe will enable more powerful features on the iPhone.
One thing is for sure, Apple will not just hand over a developer kit to anyone who asks. Expect the list of developers, at least initially, to be very short. As for the rest of those hoping to build applications for the iPhone, we refer you to Job’s previous message — build a web app.

The boys in Cupertino have finally given us a date: October 26th, next Friday, when the latest update to OSX, 10.5 (also known as Leopard) will ship. Leopard comes with a host of new features, including an overhauled dock with 3D effects and ’stacks’ (pictured above) for easy organization. It also comes with the mesmerizing ability to browse your files in Coverflow (also pictured above).
Leopard is available for pre-order now for $129 for a single license and $199 for a family pack of 5 licenses. The server version is also available for pre-order at $499 for a 10-client license or $999 for an unlimited client license.
As usual, there is no such thing as an ‘upgrade’ available from Apple, so you’re stuck paying full price regardless.

Google has just launched their Google Docs service for mobile phones. At the moment, it’s read-only, but they are working on it.
We tried it on a Samsung Blackjack and the experience is less than stellar to say the least, especially with the sheets.
The iPhone gets a better user interface, though.

Just when you thought you may have had enough of Warhawk, rumors are surfacing about a new pack of goodies due out in December for the online-only title. What’s in this rumored pack, you ask? It seems the main draw of the expansion is a new vehicle — something that launches missiles, or can airlift things, or shoot lasers out of its ears. Well, not the last one, but without official confirmation, it might as well get added to the list.
Incognito’s own Dylan Jobe didn’t confirm the update, but did imply some are on their way when he said “we will further update the community with additional server-side updates, as well as client-side patches.” Guess we’ll find out the truth in December!
