Fujitsu Flepia e-reader prototype

Fujitsu launched its Flepia e-reader prototype that comes in a couple of flavors - 8″ and 12″ displays. Both of them will feature touchscreen capability for easy navigation, while the displays feature 4,096 colors in XGA resolution (768 x 1,024). Too bad the color count is so low as I would have preferred at least 65k in this day and age. Ah well, I guess battery life has something to do with it in the end, since the optional 8-color spec is capable of giving you up to 50 hours’ worth of runtime. You can store content on an SD memory card, and to give you an idea on what an electronic tome this would make, a 4GB SD card can hold up to 5,000 average length novels. Now that’s a whole lot of books to read. I wonder if jails around the country could furnish prisoners with one of these so they can better spend their time reading instead. No word on this 12mm thin e-reader though, but it can’t quite come out fast enough.

Man. I’m so sleep deprived. I shouldn’t be posting at a comedy website right now: everything is hilarious. Every thing.

As evidence:

It’s lame right? I know it’s lame. But I cannot stop laughing. I just…can’t. I mean…look at it!

Send help.

I’ll get some sleep next week and hopefully my posts will be less…like this.

You may have heard about a little game called Monster Hunter 3. It’s the next game in a pretty popular series (especially in Japan) that was expected to be released on the PS3. Well you might also have heard that Monster Hunter 3 isn’t coming to the PS3 after all. Cue a thread on the official Capcom forums full of angry PS3 owners moaning that Capcom is ignoring the PS3 and its fans.

Enter Christian Svensson, Senior Director of Strategic Planning and Development, who posted a cryptic message which has us feeling a mixture of excitement, curiosity and confusion. “Let’s see how they feel at the end of next week about us.” “They,” in this case, refers to PS3 fans. So, until the end of next week we’re going to wait optimistically for any and all announcements that Capcom have to make. What could it be? Ready, set - speculate!

Christina Aguilera is not the only famous mom-to-be getting into baby mode. Just last week Halle Berry and Gabriel Aubry stopped by another celeb-favorite baby boutique to get their baby registry in order. The actress, who is loving being pregnant, and her model boyfriend spent over an hour shopping at Petit Tresor. The couple picked out gender-neutral items including a fairy tale theme for the nursery that would consist of custom painted murals and custom matching furniture and bedding. Among other things they picked up for their future girl or boy were this Kaloo Activity Book, a Chime Bell Ball, a cashmere Alvin & Sparky puppy and this Lily Binkie blanket. Halle also picked up two diaper bags for herself, this bigger black and white Mia Bossi one and a smaller white leather one by Fleurville. All we know is that this is going to be one beautiful and stylish baby!

Google, Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG) likes to make the most complex thing you’ll ever do into the most simplest task. Much of the planet knows how easy it is to use Google’s market-leading search engine, but the talent and technology to make that possible would be mind-boggling to many of us.

If you’ve used a cellphone in the last year, you’re probably aware of how complex that category has become. In standard fashion, cellphone makers and wireless carriers both are cramming more features into wireless phones these days as a way to recruit more customers. Long gone are the old differentiators like coverage area and minute packages, and in are MP3 players, streaming video and amazingly complex user interfaces for even the most basic of cellphones. Google wants to change that, and apparently it won’t bother with yet another handset that would just get lost in the fray.

No, Google’s simplistic approach, as it always has been, may be in the software that powers these devices instead of making the hardware itself. Right now, Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ: MSFT) makes the Windows Mobile operating system for advanced wireless phones, but it’s laden with overkill for most of us. Yes, we all want email and multimedia applications on our phones, but we can do without the complexity current solutions have to offer. If Google were to license or give away its mobile operating system technology to manufacturers and have a say in the design itself beyond the software — and support the effort using in-phone advertising of some sort — the world of cellphones could change for the better. If we thought the Apple, Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) iPhone was “revolutionary,’” then maybe the ‘gPhone’ could be one step beyond that.

In the next iteration of the legendary ‘SimCity’ game series, ‘SimCity Societies,’ earthquakes, tornadoes and other natural disasters will be joined by global warming as a new gameplay element that can plague your custom-built, in-game world. To power your in-game society, you can now opt for cheap, traditional, polluting power that will raise carbon levels in your virtual cities, or you can go with low-carbon options that will result in a much more green-friendly gaming experience.

Hey, that sounds pretty educational and forward-thinking — but hold on just a minute. This inclusion of green power isn’t some altruistic partnership between EA and Al Gore to help change the world. Rather, it’s sponsored by oil giant BP, a company trying desperately to re-brand itself as anything but a petroleum peddler. In the game, those who utilize BP Alternative energy sources will find lower levels of in-game carbon dioxide, which reduces the risk of droughts and heat waves. It’s just another micro-management factor ‘SimCity Societies’ gamers will have at their disposal to keep their virtual citizens happy.

Despite this stomach-churning example of corporate synergy at its absolute filthiest, we have to say, judging from the trailer above, that we’re still psyched to play ‘SimCity Societies’ when it’s released mid-November.

Well, it looks like that rumored new Xbox 360 bundle we heard about way back in August was right on the mark, as Microsoft has now officially announced that the console will soon come bundled with both Forza 2 and Marvel Ultimate Alliance at no added cost. Those freebies will find their way into both the $350 Premium console and the $450 Elite console, with each expected to be available by the end of October. That date would certainly coincide nicely with the rumored release of the budget-priced Xbox 360 Arcade console, although Microsoft apparently isn’t quite ready to get official with that just yet.

iPhone apps runs on iPod Touch

For those who have jailbreaked their iPod Touch, they would be able to benefit from the installation of many iPhone third-party applications such as the hacked Springboard that enables you to scroll through many different homepages, Google Maps from the iPhone to help you get your bearing, as well as the all-important NES emulator to get your game on whenever your PSP or DS Lite bites the dust.
