Word on the street has it that Google is planning a Canadian launch of its Street View map feature that actually brings street-level close-ups of city centers to your desktop, albeit with blurred faces of people and vehicle license plates - moves that are in line with Canada’s privacy laws. Apparently, Google was told last month by Canada’s privacy commissioner that a panoramic, 360-degree images of nine U.S. cities could violate Canadian laws if it were introduced without alterations. Good for the Canadians who can retain their privacy, but what about those living in the US? I would certainly feel uneasy if eyes from cyberspace were peering at me thousands of miles away without my knowledge, and my secret of wearing a polka dot underwear in public would be revealed for all and sundry to see.
