As the Prinnies would probably say, “Welcome back to the world of Disgaea, d00d.” Then they’d probably explode or something. Anyhow, Nippon Ichi has opened up the official Disgaea 3 website, detailing bits of the story and pictures of characters … you know, the usual website-related stuff. Our problem is, as usual, our inability to read kanji and most things Japanese. Despite that, we’re sure the text is tantalizing and obscurely humorous and we can’t wait to read more of it in English when the title hits the PS3 sometime next year.

If you’re ever stuck wondering why Live HTTP Headers and Firebug are telling you your “Cookie:” request headers don’t match the “Set-Cookie:” response headers you’ve just been sent, here’s a couple of points and gotchas worth remembering:
- A cookie can only be overwritten (or deleted) by a subsequent cookie exactly matching the name, path and domain of the original cookie. Even though a cookie with domain “.example.org” set by www.example.org is perfectly valid, it will not overwrite a previous cookie of the same name which was set against “www.example.org”. Instead, both cookies will be stored, and on subsequent requests only one will be sent.
- If multiple cookies match a given request URI, one is chosen by the browser.
The more specific the path, the higher the precedence. However precedence based on other attributes, including the domain, is unspecified, and may vary between browsers. This means that if you have set cookies of the same name against “.example.org” and “www.example.org”, you can’t be sure which one will be sent back.
- The HTTP state object is called a cookie
for no compelling reason according to the preliminary specification from Netscape.

When you lose your phone charger or accidentally leave it behind while traveling, your options are limited to either buying a new one or finding a friend who happens to have a phone made by the same manufacturer - even then, it sometimes needs to be the same exact model.
Thankfully, those days are drawing to a close now that the world’s major phone manufacturers including Nokia, Samsung, Motorola, Sony Ericsson and LG have agreed on a universal standard for chargers. That standard is micro-USB, the little brother to the mini-USB jack that many phone makers are already using thanks to its ability to charge from an outlet, charge from a PC and sync with a PC. Micro-USB boasts the same versatility, but in a much smaller for factor, which should be helpful going forward as our phones shrink to ‘Zoolander’-like proportions.
While consumers will obviously benefit from the interoperability of phone cables, another winner is Ma Nature. Telecom analysts believe this will open the door to manufacturers offering an option to buy phones without the charging cables included, assuming you already own one. Not only would this cut down on the number of unused cables being sent to the dump, but it would also reduce the size of the packaging your new phone comes in.
If only our cell phone service providers were as easily swappable …

Although she’s one of pop music’s most famous faces (and one of the PEOPLE’s Best Dressed!), the shorter darker ‘do Beyonce wore to the launch party for Diddy’s new fragrance, Unforgiveable Woman, made her an unrecognizable woman. Even the man of the hour didn’t realize the “Irreplaceable” singer was in attendance. “She just had a new hairstyle. I didn’t recognize her,” Diddy admitted. “It was real sexy.” Changing up her look is nothing new for Beyonce, whose hair has gone from big and bouncy to sleek and shiny and from super straight to two-tone ringlets. But her deep brown side-swept curls she showed off at Diddy’s party caught us by surprise — in a good way. Tell us: Do you love Beyonce’s new color or do you prefer a lighter shade?

If you haven’t played Metal Gear Solid on the PSOne before, shame on you. Nevertheless, you’ll soon have a chance to redeem your honor when Konami releases the cellphone version of Metal Gear Solid. You might pooh-pooh at the idea, thinking that the portable version will lack the stunning 3D graphics (at that time) that is available on the console version, but the coding gods at Konami will still feature the complete 3D environment even on your humble cellphone. Entry level handsets probably can’t handle this, but a high end version like Sony Ericsson’s W53S will run the game smoothly as shown at the recent Tokyo Game Show 2007 event. I wonder how you’re going to lay the smack down on Psycho Mantis as you won’t be able to use the 2P controller trick to outsmart him this time…

If you don’t get the subject line’s incredibly clever pun, so clever we’re going to take a typing break to eat a cookie … then tell you the game is an interactive horror novel. Anyway. Chunsoft and Sega are bringing this horror novel to life and from the Tokyo Game Show floor, life is a bit of a stretch. While interesting in concept, it sounds like plodding through walls of text and then selecting a path intermittently isn’t as scary as we’d hoped. The strange choice was to use all live-action and real scenery in the background. Nothing pre-rendered, nothing animated.
Still, the production values are hailed as top notch and the backgrounds do have a breath of life in them. Fires will twist and dance, the hair on a character’s head will flutter momentarily, and voice-overs are not uncommon. Rumble is also featured, adding a fairly scary jolt to your hands whenever a character screams or, we assume, windows break and/or hell breaks loose. Chances are this is import only, unless you trust Sega to write up a smart script and hire voice talents who can actually scream appropriately.

Vurdalak, huh? Now there’s a term you don’t hear too often. Usually when I hear the word I think of Mario Bava’s 1963 film I Tre Volti Della Paura (known here in the states as Black Sabbath) in which Boris Karloff played a vurdalak, a vampire that preys only on those it loved most in life. A report in Variety tells us Vurdalak is a “neo-medieval” tale to be produced by Spain’s Andres Vicente Gomez and directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, whose best-known film is probably the 2005 remake of House of Wax. I haven’t seen that flick, but I’m willing to give the benefit of the doubt to the man who directed Paris Hilton’s on-screen demise.
The film is described as a tale of vengeance between two bloodthirsty warlords. A character named Safet is the only survivor following the mass slaughter of his family at the hands of Prince Verjik. Driven by hate, Safet becomes a living dead vurdalak, which would seem to eliminate the whole preying on his loved ones angle used in the Bava film. Collet-Serra will also serve as screenwriter, and he has already turned in a first draft. The film is being produced through Gomez’s RadioPlus, and San Francisco’s Massive Black studio has started pre-visualizations and digital design.
Gomez is also very interested in the video game potential of the film. According to the Variety piece, Spanish revenue from theatrical and DVD movies has dropped 5 to 6% because of online piracy, but video game sales have increased by 18% in Spain in 2006 as opposed to the European average of 10%. Hey, if we can kill Paris Hilton in the video game, sign me up!

While I am not passionate about bacon the way some people are, I will readily admit that there’s nothing a good BLT, where the bacon is nice, crisp and plentiful. I rarely make bacon for myself however, as I can’t deal with how gross it looks as it cooks (we all have our food quirks). I learned about something today that may revolutionize my bacon eating habits.
Bacon Salt.
Once, not very long ago, two guys named Dave and Justin discovered that they shared a mutual love of bacon. One night over dinner, they stumbled upon the idea of shakeable bacon and thus a product model was born. They have a very basic philosophy, which is that “Everything should taste like bacon.” You can get your bacon salt in one of three flavors, Original, Peppered and Hickory. Best of all? It’s Kosher!
