At first glance we thought that these were socks inside a pair of Mary Janes, but then we realized that it was a whole boot. Even with the huge Mary Jane trend going on, we’re still not sure what to really think about these Marc by Marc Jacobs shoes. Tell us: Would you wear them?

A lot of people complained about the lack of critters in the ambient world of flOw. We don’t really know why — it’s sort of a calming experience no matter what little amoeba-like creature you decide to evolve. Well, an expansion pack for the game is on its way and you can expect a new playable creature, a new enemy, and new types of food. The new creature is another of that circle-type creature you could play as before and the enemy is another variation on the spiky-puffer fish thing. Don’t get too close!
Another addition in the expansion is the funky ability to play as two different creatures in multiplayer. Now you don’t have to argue about which small tapeworm thing is you. Nobody knows when this expansion pack is getting released, but it seems the most important addition is the ability to choose different characters in multiplayer.

Trevor Michael Karney - aka, The Elusive Dietrich - has been sentenced to jail by an LA judge for misleading police in the 162MPH crash of that $1.5 million Gizmondo Ferrari Enzo. Besides lying to police about his involvement as a passenger, the 27-year old German playboy also fled to Ireland before sneaking back into the US through the Mexican border in search of some tasty bud and cool waves. The sentence? 30 days, which roughly translates to a punishment of tickling by virgins until the onset of bellyache by the time the appeals process is through.

Asus has yet another UMPC up their sleeves, and this is known as the R3. You view it horizontally just like how the Sony PSP is viewed, and it does boast GPS navigation so you will be able to find your way around in unfamiliar territory while reading up on the latest reports from the office. Features include a 4.8″ display at 1024 x 600 resolution, a Webcam (for video conferencing purposes, presumably), and a fingerprint reader to help secure the data within. The Asus R3 is tipped to ship sometime next year at a yet undisclosed price. Looks like there isn’t any physical keyboard on this thing, so be prepared for more touchscreen goodness.

For a long time it seemed like there wasn’t a chance the PlayStation 3 would ever have rumbling controllers, if only because Sony executives seemed to say the technology was lame every time they opened their mouths. One said that rumble is a “last generation feature”, another that it was a “passive, reactionary … technology.” They said it was too expensive, and then just over a month ago went out of their way to deny reports that rumble was something they were considering. But, we now have official confirmation that all of this was just spin, as Sony will be releasing a wireless PS3 controller in Japan this November — and the sucker has rumble.
When the PlayStation launched back in 1994, one of most widely-praised features was the DualShock controller that rumbled in your hands according to the on-screen action. It grew to become one of the system’s most beloved features and was included in the controllers when Sony launched the PlayStation’s successor, the epic PS2. Unfortunately, a company named Immersion Corp. owned a patent for the technology and it sued Sony for using rumble in its controllers without paying royalties. Immersion even went so far as to prevent Sony from selling PS2 consoles for a few months. This, many believe, is the real reason Sony scrapped DualShock in the PS3 and instead gave us the motion-sensing SIAXIS controllers, which have still yet to prove themselves as fun or useful.
However, Sony recently settled its long-standing dispute with Immersion, and DualShock for PS3 is on the way. As mentioned, the new controller is due to hit Japan in November of this year, with a U.S. and European release in Spring of 2008. Interestingly, Sony is allowing existing games to be updated to work with rumble through software updates, though it hasn’t said which games. Sony also hasn’t priced the new controller yet, but given that the current, rumble-free version goes for $50 we figure $60 is a fair guess.

So far in Valkyrie of the Battlefield’s short life, we’ve only seen the occasional screen or magazine scan, but now Sega has finally taken the wraps of its newest PS3-exclusive RPG.
Sega kicked off the cel-shading revolution with Jet Set Radio, but now the company is pushing the technology even further by using it to create gorgeous watercolor-theme graphics, which its calling Canvas. It really does look like a painting has come to life.
While we would have loved to see some actual gameplay, there’s no denying the game looks great. Let’s just cross our fingers that Sega decides to ship this baby worldwide.

The Jewish High Holidays started last week. As with most holiday celebrations, a large part of Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur (once you’re done fasting and atoning) and Succoth is the food. My mother’s family is Jewish, but of such a secular nature that there have been times when ham has appeared on the Passover table. I don’t have a store of recipes that have been handed down the generations, so I often turn to others when I want to make a holiday appropriate dish.
One recipe I’d like to try and possibly add to my file of Jewish holiday treats was posted by Claire over at Cookthink. It is a delicious looking honey cake that she remembers her (recently departed) grandmother making to represent the sweetness of another new year.

I’m going to be real honest with you here, because it’s late and the PG-13 side of me is itching to break loose. The only thing I remember about Haven (aside from some nice blue water) was Zoe Saldana. And, technically, I’m not talking about her performance. Should she eat more? Sure, but aren’t most Hollywood actresses flirting with an eating disorder at one point throughout their career? Zoe’s cute, she looks good, and she’s also about to co-star in one of the most talked-about films in the month of July — Star Trek XI: The Flashback Episode. (That was a joke; not the real title — in case you thought about IM’ing your Trekkie group.)
Saldana will be playing Uhura, “which means freedom in Swahili” (thanks Variety!), and acts as a member of the bridge crew on the U.S.S. Enterprise. Variety adds that the character also rose to the rank of commander. Saldana takes over for Nichelle Nichols, who played the character on the original Star Trek series, as well as in six Star Trek films. Star Trek XI will follow the Enterprise crew during those oh-so-important wonder years, back when the gang first met and, presumably, took on their first mission — which (and don’t tell ANYONE I told you this) apparently has to do with Kirk and Spock being placed in charge of finding out exactly what J.J. Abrams is calling his damn monster movie. Interesting … and I like the cross promotion. Heroes star Zachary Quinto and Anton Yelchin have already signed on to play Spock and Chekov respectively, while the original Spock (Leonard Nimoy) has also hopped onboard to play something (I like the Enterprise janitor, but I’m not writing the thing). Star Trek XI will arrive in theaters on December 25, 2008.
