Archive for September 20th, 2007Filed under: Hands-on ![]() LocoRoco Cocoreccho will arrive on the PlayStation Store this week, and we were able to get some time with it at Sony’s pre-TGS media event. We’re sad to say that this brand new PS3 sequel loses one of the most important aspects of the original: simplicity. LocoRoco on the PSP charmed gamers with its simple and intuitive play mechanic that could be understood from the moment one picks up the system. One cannot say the same for Cocoreccho, the supposed “screensaver” game for PS3. There are too many different control mechanisms at play, creating a generally disparate experience. For example, the ability to tilt the world is surprisingly inconsistent: it can only occur during specific parts of each level. Players will have to rock the controller, pump it up and down, sway it left and right throughout each level — in addition to having to move the analog stick to control the floating butterflies that motivate the LocoRocos to move along. The lengthy tutorial that’s included with our demo worries us that the game is much too complicated for its own good. Obviously, we need to spend more time with the title to fully understand the nuances of the “game” — perhaps when slowly introduced to the experience, it becomes much more endearing. But in the very little we’ve seen, we were dismayed by the surprising complexity of this LocoRoco follow-up. Perennial geek idol and gloomy music star Trent Reznor is not making any friends at his record label, Universal Media Group (UMG). At a concert Sunday night in Sydney, Reznor let loose on the music industry. Commenting on the fact that CD prices had not dropped after an outburst in May (see below), he asked, “Has anyone seen the price come down? Okay, well, you know what that means - STEAL IT. Steal away. Steal and steal and steal some more and give it to all your friends and keep on stealin’. Because one way or another these mother****ers will get it through their head that they’re ripping people off and that’s not right.” Back in May, Reznor commented in an interview with the Herald Sun in Australia on the ridiculous prices of CD’s saying, “You got record labels that are doing everything they can to piss people off and rip them off.” He then lashed out at his record label saying, “I’ve garnered a core audience that you feel it’s OK to rip off? F— you’. That’s also why you don’t see any label people here, ‘cos I said, ‘F— you people. Stay out of my f—ing show. If you wanna come, pay the ticket like anyone else. F— you guys.’ They’re thieves. I don’t blame people for stealing music if this is the kind of s— that they pull off.” It’s good to see that some musicians understand the dilemma we fans face. Reznor even admits to stealing music: “I steal music too, I’m not gonna say I don’t.” From Slashdot and the Herald Sun Related links:
![]() Those who have already gotten their hands on O2’s iPhone will notice that under the “Settings” menu lies the “TV out” option. Apparently, this European iPhone is touted to run on the yet-unreleased iPhone firmware v.1.1.1, which means a future update would bring the same TV out feature to those living in the US. Looks like Steve will be raking in even more cash as Apple Stores worldwide prep a “Made for iPhone” TV out cable to meet demand.

Will ‘Harry Potter’s’ Daniel Radcliffe Become the Next James Bond?Posted by: in Hollywood newsFiled under: Action & Adventure, RumorMonger, Fandom, James Bond, Harry Potter, Daniel Craig
But there’s a problem with this whole thing. When we’re first introduced to Bond in Silverfin, he’s only 13. I know he’s attending Eton College (as in, “Dude, he’s 13 — how is he in College?), but the school takes kids between the ages of 13 and 18. So, unless they’re going to take some liberties with the books and jack up Bond’s age, there’s no way Radcliffe can pull off a 13 year-old kid. Especially after he’s finished completing the next two Potter films (which, in case you’re wondering, will put him at about 20 years-old in real life). And if they plan on following Bond through a number of films while he ages up, becomes smarter, stronger — the whole nine — then I imagine they’d have to find a kid, like they did with Radcliffe for Potter, that could grow up with the series … and have it all make sense. But who even knows if they’d want to touch a young Bond now that the new and improved Bond is doing so well at the box office. So, chalk this up as a big ol’ rumor and we’ll see what happens in the months to come. Filed under: Cellphones Sure, we’ve heard whispers involving the BlackBerry Curve 8320 before, but there’s nothing like official documentation from a trusted carrier to really get you jazzed up. As expected, this handset will tout WiFi, HotSpot @Home / UMA support, a two-megapixel camera, Bluetooth 2.0, a microSD expansion slot, built-in multimedia player, a 320 x 240 QVGA display, and a 312MHz Intel processor to boot. Hit the read link for the full rundown of the official details. [Thanks, Hayden]
