It’s hard to believe it’s been 3-years since the release of Brendon Sinclair’s “The Web Design Business Kit”, with it’s 14-pounds of glory and retro-orange cover design.

Since then, we’ve amassed 18 pages of customer reviews, and many more emails, from all corners of the planet. Among these, were many suggestions for a 2nd edition, as well as more than a few questions asking for advice.

With this in mind, early this year we commenced work on updating the kit to answer the most common questions, and provide the most requested documents (contracts!). After many months of work, and more than a few late nights for Brendon Sinclair (the author), we’re happy to announce “The Web Design Business Kit 2.0“.

What’s new in the 2nd edition?

Four New Chapters:

  • Outsourcing For Great Profits
  • Delight Your Clients
  • Dealing With Those Pesky Clients
  • Business Legalities

Five new lawyer-written contracts:

  • Design Contract
  • Hosting Contract
  • Support Contract
  • Ongoing Marketing Contract
  • Confidentiality Contract

… and of course, 509-pages of advice on finding, selling, and keeping clients, 182 pages of time-tested documents, and a CDROM containing all the documents & spreadsheets in editable format.

Download your free sample chapters here.

If you love MMO’s, anime, and/or not paying monthly subscription fees, you’ve probably checked out other “free to play” online MMO’s like Ragnarok Online or Maple Story. No, neither of those are headed to the PS3, but Q Entertainment seems to be bringing a title named Angel Love to the PlayStation Store, probably in Japan.

The game is supposedly going to be free to download and to play, but microtransactions on items will serve as a means to make money for the developer. No, not every item will require a nickel or dime. If you think back to Maple Story, it’s probably like that — buying funky clothing, super-special items and the like. Angel Love is supposed to land on the PS3 this December, most likely as a free PS Store download. No word on regions yet, though we wouldn’t be surprised if it remained Japan-only. Still, it’s free to download if you can handle not buying special items … if you catch our drift.

This one’s firmly in the rumor category, but Ars Technica is reporting that its “mole” had gotten wind of some fairly big plans Sony has in store for this holiday season, not the least of which is a new 40GB PlayStaiton 3 that would retail for $400. What’s more, this source says that Sony will also be dropping the price of the 80GB PS3 to $500, and that one or both will come bundled with a Blu-ray version of Spider-Man 3. If that’s not enough, Ars Technica is also reporting that Sony will be dropping the price of the tried and true PS2 to a mere $100, which is a rather roundabout way to ensure backwards compatibility but a welcome price drop nonetheless. While Sony’s obviously remaining mum on the matter, as both Ars and Joystiq point out, the Tokyo Game Show later this month would seem to be a likely opportunity for it to get official with things, if it in fact has anything to get official with.

Apple's iPhoneAfter the sizable price cut on the iPhone, the shares of Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) have been jumpy. Kind of like Google Inc. (Nasdaq: GOOG), it’s never easy to predict the goings-on at Apple.

So is the price cut a good thing?

Well, I had a chance to interview Rafi Mohammed, who is a pricing expert and the author of The Art of Pricing.

His opinion on the matter?

“With Apple announcing it recently sold one million iPhones, what should be clear is that last week’s $200 price cut was not out of desperation. It was a very strategic move. When it released the iPhone, Apple stated its two key goals: sell one million phones before September 30 and 10 million phones before the end of 2008. One million iPhones were sold in just 74 days, but to achieve mass adoption, Apple has to cut its price to attract everyday customers. This is exactly what Apple is doing. Additionally, following its classic strategy of under promise and over deliver, an early September price cut will produce blockbuster numbers for its first full quarter (which ends on September 30) of iPhone sales.

Apple’s next step is to do exactly what it has done with its other innovative products like iMacs and iPods: offer a full line of good, better, and best iPhone products. A good, better, and best line will enable Apple to achieve mass adoption while also profiting from those willing to pay for a premium product.

“Apple’s rollout strategy illustrates the key roll that price plays in profits and growth. Apple employed a classic pricing strategy of lowering prices over time. And as I mentioned previously, there may have been room to even price the $599 version (Apple has noted that most iPhone sales were for the higher priced model). While many companies lower prices over time, they fail to offer a good, better, and best product line that enables them to price for profits and growth.

Prince Sues eBay, YouTube, and Pirate Bay

Prince (The Artist Formerly Known as The Artist Formerly Known as Prince), is taking on three sites that he says are primarily responsible for the online piracy of his music. Prince and a company called Web Sheriff are working closely together to get the offending material pulled from both YouTube and eBay. The third site named in the suit is Torrent peer-to-peer file sharing network / repository Pirate Bay.

Web Sheriff announced that it had successfully removed 2,000 YouTube videos and had 300 auctions pulled from eBay. The statement went on to say “Prince strongly believes artists as the creators and owners of their music need to reclaim their art.”

We think that perhaps Prince should reclaim his dignity and stop suing outlets where his fans get together to share music, memorabilia, and experiences. Look Prince, baby, you don’t want to do this. Have you looked at Metallica recently? That band’s crusade against piracy did nothing for its members’ careers.

Choosing the right shade of eye shadow can be a daunting task, especially when shimmers, mattes, and frosts are thrown into the mix. Whether you’re a brown-eyed babe or a green-eyed goddess, our October issue of StyleWatch features the best eye shadows and tips for your eye color. Here, more great tips to make your eyes pop from Clarins celebrity makeup artist Nick Barose, who works on stars like Mischa Barton.

–Brown-eyed beauties rejoice! When it comes to eye shadows, you have the most options because brown is a neutral color that won’t clash with eye makeup. Just make sure that earth tones like brown, taupe or khaki are spiked with gold to keep the color from looking drab.

–Contrast is key. When selecting your eye shadow, choose one with a bit of contrast from your skin tone in order to keep the shade from disappearing on the skin and washing you out.

–Daytime shadow doesn’t have to be boring. Fun colors like metallics and shimmers can be worn during the day too. The best way to wear them is in small doses such as swipe of color or shimmer along the upper lash line. Mixing bolder colors with earth tones also keeps the look day-appropriate.

I wrote about the impending Hollywood strike earlier today for a reason; mainly, so that you at home will better understand the following bit of info regarding the much talked-about Transformers 2. So, before you read this post, you might wanna read the other one first. Done reading? Good. Anyway, Transformers producer Don Murphy stopped by his message boards last night to give fans a quick update on some of his projects, including that Transformers sequel. And in case you haven’t figured it out by now, the reason why we’re not hearing much about it (according to Murphy) is because the folks in charge don’t want to make a move until this whole strike thing goes away. And if they wanted to make a Transformers 2 (which they do), it would have to be done prior to June 2008. Which, realistically, is impossible.

Murphy sums it up well when he says, “But since no one wants to be filming IF a strike happens, everything needs to be done filming by the end of May 2008. So this is affecting the lack of news about Transformers 2 at least for now.” If a strike is averted sooner rather than later, I imagine Transformers 2 will be one of the first projects we hear about — Transformers is currently sitting at number three in box office totals for 2007 ($311 million and counting), and you bet your ass the film will earn a heckuva lot more once the DVD is released in multiple formats on October 16. I’m sure a lot of you are itching to see a sequel, and I hate to say it but this impending strike could seriously delay that sequel from happening anytime in the near future. As always, Cinematical will let you know as soon as more word is announced …

Call ‘em suckers or Apple faithful, early adopters or cutting edge, any way you slice it those who shelled out for a full-priced iPhone before August 22 can now enter their digits and get a $100 Apple Store Credit for use online or at an Apple Retail Store, just like Jobs promised. The process couldn’t be easier, and you don’t need a receipt, just enter your phone number and serial number, the latter which can be found on the back of your iPhone, and Apple will SMS you an access code. Once you enter that you’re home free, and can finally go on that iPod accessory shopping spree you’ve always dreamed of — or if you’re a true fanboy, put the credit towards an iPod touch just to see what all this “iPhone without the phone” fuss is about.

Update: A couple of interesting things to note about the program so far. First off, and most disappointingly, the program doesn’t work with iPhones that haven’t been activated on AT&T. Second, and slightly more far-fetched, is that we’re hearing reports of people scoring the credit with their post price-drop iPhones. It seems like any way you slice it it’s worth tossing your digits into the thing and see what comes out, before Apple tightens things up, and we’ll keep an eye out for recourse for those who haven’t activated their phones with AT&T like good little consumers.
