Chak De for the team! The movie’s exceptional script by Jaideep Sahni will be at a very deserving place – no where else but the Oscar Library! “A copy of the screenplay has already reached the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences, which hosts and hands out the Oscar Awards, to be a part […]

Despite the launch of the Wii in the US occurring months and months ago, there is still a perceivable shortage of the little white console. Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter made his own analysis of the recent upturn in US Wii console sales by predicting that Nintendo filled the gap by diverting manufacturing in Japan to feed the US stores. It’s almost beyond belief that Nintendo still hasn’t been able to get a grasp on its manufacturing process, over nine months since the Wii was released. Wasn’t half the point of focusing on casual gaming — and therefore lower specs — that the console would be easy to manufacture in vast quantities?

Office Depot Featured Gadget: Xbox 360 Platinum System Packs the power to bring games to life!

Family Guy on Xbox Live‘Family Guy’ — the show that just wouldn’t die despite Fox canceling it twice — is spreading some love in the gamer community with the complete first and second seasons set to debut for download on Microsoft’s Xbox Live service on Monday. The straight-to-DVD film ‘Family Guy Presents Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story’ will also be available. Each episode will be able to be downloaded and purchased for 160 MS points (roughly $2), which is comparable to the average cost of a video download on iTunes — though with the added benefit of being playable directly to your TV (assuming you own an Xbox 360, of course).

Given that you can buy the boxed set of all 28 first and second season episodes on DVD for around $40 at many places, this isn’t exactly a steal. That said, the Xbox 360 is quickly becoming the game console for cartoon watching adult men, with episodes of ‘South Park,’ ‘Aqua Teen Hunger Force’ and ‘Robot Chicken’ also available.

Growing up is overrated, anyway …

We don’t think you’ve seen these before. Stolen from the inner depths of the Insomniac offices, we have brand new concept art from the upcoming Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction. In our first gallery, you’ll see the creative process at work: from environment designs, to creature creations.

In our second gallery, you’ll get a closer look at many of the new characters in R&C. For example, the “sultry” Talwyn, someone that holds the key to the “Lombax secret” perhaps?

Thanks to Insomniac for providing this art to our readers! (Expect to see many of these return for our Wallpaper collection this weekend!)

Tacoda logo.Time Warner Inc. (NYSE: TWX) has received the required clearance to acquire Tacoda Inc., a company that targets ads based on a web user’s browsing habits. There is no issue with this deal clearing. Time Warner could acquire 100 companies like this and the Federal Trade Commission and Department of Justice would rubber stamp every single deal.

It is almost funny that the two recent big media and online buys — Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ: MSFT) has bought aQuantive and Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG) has acquired DoubleClick — are still being reviewed by some. Those purchases cannot be reversed.

Back to Time Warner and AOL: AOL has found itself in a predicament over backing away from prior estimates for “faster than market growth” for its search-related advertising sales. But if you look back at last month’s comScore numbers, as we pointed out earlier, you will realize that AOL has a massive reach through its Advertising.com division. Any such deal that can incrementally ad both new advertising groups and that can reach more people will be an opportunity for incredible advertising leverage.

It’s hard to cover a company like Time Warner one unit at a time. Many in the media still want to only cover negative aspects of the company, and considering it is a shot at bashing a competitor it is hard to blame them. Just last week, AOL launched Truveo. AOL may be its own entity next year if my thought process is accurate and the clouds drift the way they have historically. This will allow it to keep adding small strategic plays that can help grow both AOL and the other Time Warner brands. That will be a winning recipe for the company, and should be a winning recipe for shareholders.

I’ve been addicted to my light-up 10x magnifying mirror for years, but it’s not exactly something I can throw in my bag when I leave the house in the morning. On a recent trip, I found myself cursing my overgrown eyebrows — and the lack of light when I used a normal bathroom mirror. And then I discovered Sephora’s new Illuminating Tweezer. Just click the button on the stainless steel tweezers, and a perfect little spotlight shines right on the area you’re tweezing. There’s even a handy little mirror in the case so you can really do it on the go! Get your own pair for $22 at sephora.com.

Cell Phones Banned on Carribean Beach

Movie theaters and restaurants no longer stand for them, and cell phones are already illegal to use while driving in many U.S. states (without a hands-free kit). Numerous states are also taking measures to ban text messaging while driving in the wake of several texting-related car accident deaths. But, the owners of Palm Island in the Caribbean are taking their disdain for the cell phone a step further. The use of cell phones, as well as laptops and PDAs, is now completely banned within a half-mile of the island’s main beach.

The move is primarily to prevent guests from being irritated by the ringing of other peoples’ phones. However, the Chief Executive of Elite Island Resorts, which owns the Island, indicates that the secondary intent is to help visitors enjoy their vacations a little more. “We would love to encourage guests to adopt Caribbean time during their stay with us, switch off their mobiles and enjoy the sound of the lapping waves.”

That sounds mighty fine to us.

For the Unreal devotees, it shouldn’t come as surprising that Unreal Tournament III is shaping up quite nicely. Already far along in development, this PC/PS3 first person shooter is pushing the boundaries of the already-impressive Unreal Engine even further. Not only are the weapons demonstrated in this video, but the vehicles are, as well. Some of them are quite creative, we have to admit.

While we’re impressed, we’re worried that the current popularity of Warhawk may deter fans from switching to yet another multiplayer shooter. While UTIII and Warhawk have very different approaches to the genre, we hope that gamers don’t get too burned out from their endless Warhawk sessions.

[Thanks, Daichi!]

Hearing that National Treasure: Book of Secrets is going to tackle the Lincoln assassination, I can’t help but wish that Nicolas Cage grabs one of those fake parchments with the side-by-side rundown of the coincidences between that assassination and Kennedy’s. Man, it would terrible, but in that wonderful Bubba Ho-Tep sort of way. And really, we’re talking about National Treasure, so I don’t think that could hurt it at all.

IGN recently talked to director Jon Turteltaub about the flick, and from what he says, the film is exactly what you would probably expect: a Bruckheimer-like adventure movie. The director says: “Making National Treasure, I was aspiring to all the Jerry Bruckheimer movies I’d seen. To make a movie that looks big, felt exciting and would be a big audience pleaser. But I didn’t want to do that and forget about the kinds of things that were important to me. Not just great characters, but great character relationships. People who you root for.” Well, based on the teaser that Scott directed us to a few months ago, I don’t think I’ll be rooting for Riley Poole, but anyway…

Turteltaub also talks about sequels and says: “everybody is going to be thinking, ‘You’re a sellout.’ Everyone down the line, including cinematographers and editors, are thinking the same thing. So we tried to elevate casting by getting Helen Mirren and Ed Harris.” Of course, we know that — but from what he said, I’m getting the feeling that he isn’t too sure he believes it. (Besides, wouldn’t a really solid script be more important than notable actors?) He goes from there to talk about attempting to make a movie he would like, and if he fails, then at least a movie others would like. There’s too much talk about selling out and failing for my tastes. However, to give him credit, Turteltaub also talks about the lack of adventures on American soil, and that I’m totally into — we’re familiar with the landscape, the people and the history — so why not play on that on-screen?
