When Jenna Fischer appeared on the Emmys red carpet, we’ll admit to some collective head-scratching over her dress. We love Jenna, we love that she was taking care of her back and we love the color — but there was something about it. Turns out that we weren’t the only ones, and Jenna took to her myspace.com page to sort it out for her fans. She writes, “I know there was a lot of controversy about my dress. I ended up on a few Worst Dressed Lists. But, man, did I love it. I know, I know…the bow was as big as my head. BUT…I loved it! It was flowy and silky and…did I mention that I LOVED it! I saw Tim Gunn on the red carpet and he said that he liked it. So, I have that.” Well, Jenna, you also have our support — there’s nothing better than feeling totally great in what you’re wearing and picking a gown because you love is just the right reason.
And Jenna also reminds us that “the new season of The Office starts THIS THURSDAY with a special one hour episode called “Fun Run”. The show picks up 2 months after the finale. You will know everything you want to know after this first episode. It’s great!” Check out the teaser on youtube.com

One of the games that drew in the largest crowds at Tokyo Game Show was Devil May Cry 4, running on both PS3 and Xbox 360. There’s a good reason for its popularity — it simply reeks of cool. The gameplay doesn’t stray far from its predecessors, which is a good thing in our eye. The cheesy characters and Spike TV-esque productions return for this next-gen sequel, which focuses on the continuing battle between Nero and Dante.
Level design was clearly the biggest flaw of Devil May Cry 3, and it seems like the upcoming sequel does much to resolve it, offering less claustrophobic levels to battle in. Although some may criticize the game for lacking the challenge of games like Ninja Gaiden, it’s clear that the game encourages style over survival. Considering the over-the-top nature of the franchise, that’s part of its allure.

Despite recent comments from producer Don Murphy and director Michael Bay, it appears Paramount has set a release date for Transformers 2 — June 26, 2009. It’s still a long while off, which means anything can happen, but Paramount doesn’t seem concerned about the impending Hollywood strike, and wants everyone to know they’re moving ahead with a sequel to one of this year’s top grossing films. As it sits right now, its only competition will be coming from the animated Ice Age III, which is scheduled to arrive in theaters over the July 4th weekend in 2009.
From here, your guess is as good as ours regarding the involvement of Transformers director Michael Bay. Earlier this month, Bay told fans via his message boards that he was “itching to work pre-strike,” and that he might “jump ship and come back a year or so later cause people at the studio have been dragging for two months.” With a release date of June 26, 2009, Bay should have plenty of time to fit in another movie or two (he did want to shoot a smaller pic about a bunch of guys at a gym — no idea what that’s about), and the film he could take on in the meantime is 2012, which we told you about earlier today. But, with a strike and all, would Bay even have time to complete 2012 for summer 2008? I mean, that’s in, like, a few months from now — and there’s no cast, no start date and tons of special effects work to be done, I imagine. Regardless, fans can finally start anticipating a Transformers sequel. Which robots will return? Will new robots would you like to see show up? And will they once again try to convince us that Shia LaBeouf could, in fact, land a girl that looks like Megan Fox? I mean, c’mon …
Edited to change release date.

As if we weren’t already overwhelmed with Sling news lately — what with the EchoStar acquisition, Slingbox SOLO launch, and SlingPlayer Mobile for Symbian moving out of beta — we’ve just gotten word that the company is working with RIM to develop a BlackBerry-compatible version of its client. Pocket-lint reportedly got the scoop straight from the horse’s mouth, with European VP Stuart Collingswood confirming the joint effort but giving no indication of a release timetable. Besides S60, Sling also currently supports Palm and both the Smartphone and Pocket PC versions of Windows Mobile in the handset space.

What could be more exclusive than a $255,000 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti? How about a $25,000 phone given a few Ferrari 612 styling cues? The Ascent Ferrari 60, designed by Nokia’s luxury sub-label Vertu, is a follow-up to the company’s earlier Ferrari 1947, which commemorated Ferrari’s 60th anniversary. This new version celebrates Ferrari’s new Gran Turismo-style 612 roadster by using the same leather used for the car’s upholstery and the same screws found in its interior. There’s also a somewhat tacky looking shifter gate bolted onto the back.
Beyond the posh exterior, the Ascent Ferrari 60 is a fairly standard mobile phone. In fact, it’s more of a substandard phone for its lack of a digital camera or other features such as MP3 playback. Then again, if you can afford this thing, then chances are you can also afford to hire a photographer and a DJ to follow you around. If you do intend to buy the phone for use in the U.S., you’re also going to have to lay out a little extra cash for importing. While the phone is available now at Nokia stores in London, Paris, Hong Kong, and Singapore, no U.S. release has been announced.
It certainly makes the launch price of the iPhone look like a bargain, eh?

That’s right - we now have self-healing tires that are inspired by the humble onion, renewing itself once the old tread has worn out. Michelin developed such technology by utilizing manufacturing techniques which mold the tread of its XDA5 in three dimensions, which means the tread actually regenerates itself as it wears out. Sounds pretty much like an onion, revealing a new layer after the old one is peeled away. Unfortunately, the law of entropy dictates that these new treads won’t last forever - but they’ll add another 30% to tread life when compared to standard tires. How much will these puppies cost? Hopefully cheaper than getting normal tires in the long run, as it then wouldn’t make any sense economically.

So! I think in my Top 10 Websites to See at Least Once article I mentioned liking PostSecret. And, it’s no secret whatsoever under any circumstances that I love lolcats.
So this? This is pretty much the height of internet joy for me.
Somebody took the joy of lolcats and the awesomness of PostSecret and made Lolsecretz. The lolcat secret postcard wepage.
Just a warning, though, there is some strong language in a few of them. But, it’s kitties!!

As Tom Taulli has reported, Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ: MSFT) is in talks to buy a stake as high as 5% in Facebook, valuing it at $10 billion. This stake means different things to Microsoft than it does to Facebook.
But first, a bit of context for the deal. Facebook has grown to 39 million members, up nearly 63% from 24 million in late May, and is quickly gaining ground against larger rival — News Corp.’s (NYSE: NWS) MySpace — with 200 million members. Microsoft already has an exclusive agreement until 2011 to broker display advertisements for Facebook. Moreover, Microsoft and Facebook are discussing expanding that agreement beyond the United States.
What does Microsoft get from such an investment? First, it hopes that some of the Web 2.0 hype will rub off on its stock, which trades 51% below its December 1999 all time high. Second, such a stake — which would value Facebook at roughly 66% of what Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook CEO thinks it’s worth — would give Microsoft a nice capital gain should Facebook realize that $15 billion value.
For Facebook, such an investment drives a negotiating stake in the ground, which will spur feverish bidding from all the players who missed out on the chance to buy MySpace. Potential bidders would include Yahoo Inc. (NASDAQ: YHOO), Viacom Inc. (NYSE: VIA), and Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG) to name a few players who would hate to let Microsoft get a leg up on them. Who knows, maybe Rupert Murdoch could come up with a creative way to swap some MySpace equity for a stake in Facebook.
And since Zuckerberg seems determined to keep Microsoft’s stake under 5%, such a deal would not require him to give up any control to Microsoft.
There’s really no way either Facebook or Microsoft is likely to lose from this deal. Let the bidding wars begin!
